Maggie Owens Obituary

Maggie Owens

Margaret Love "Maggie" Haines Owens, 91, of Mount Airy, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on September 17, 2025. Born on May 26, 1934, in Muiravonside, Sterlingshire, Scotland, Maggie's life spanned continents. She lived a rich and remarkable life marked by service, adventure, cherished traditions and devotion to her loved ones.

Maggie served with distinction in the British Royal Air Force, a testament to her strength and independence. It was during this service that she met the love of her life, William "Bill" Owens, while he was stationed in England with the United States Air Force. Their devoted marriage spanned 67 years and was proof of their enduring partnership and affection.

A passionate reader and lover of history, Maggie was often found with a book in hand and a stack beside her favorite chair. She was an avid knitter, enthusiastic baker, always enjoying the simple pleasure of a good cup of tea and sharing British traditions with family and friends. Her warmth and nurturing presence touched everyone who knew her.

Maggie is survived by her beloved husband, Bill Owens; her son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Sue Owens; her daughter, Frances Draughn; her brother and sister-in-law, Lionel and Gillian Haines; 5 Grandchildren, 3 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Grandchild and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lionel and Elizabeth (Robertson) Haines, her sister and brother-in-law, Wallis and Bill Spriggs.

In honor of Maggie's wishes, no services will be held. The family invites you to celebrate her memory in your own ways. Her warmth, spirit and quiet strength will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
