Melanie Louise Jones, 60, of Aiken, South Carolina, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many, passed Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021. Melanie was the oldest daughter of Joseph and Mary Jones born in Bradenton, Florida. Her family lived in Palmetto, until her elementary school years when they moved to Oneonta, New York. Melanie quickly made new friends and had a band of "sisters" that remain friends to this day. She called many places "home" on the East Coast, including Mount Airy and lastly Aiken. While in North Carolina, she started the "Friends of the Mount Airy Police," a non-profit organization that raised funds to provide a UTV for the force, canine safety vests, and teddy bears for the officers to provide to children. Melanie leaves behind her parents Joseph Jones of Windsor; Mary Jones of McLean, Virginia; siblings David Jones of Oneonta, and his wife Donna; Jennifer Jones of McLean, and her husband, Juan Villar; Rebecca Gutierrez of Windsor, South Carolina; five nieces, Monica, Veronica, Sydney, Sophie and Nora, and numerous extended family members. She especially loved her nieces who looked forward to whatever surprises and fun she had in store for them at "Camp Melanie." She will be remembered for her bubbly personality and generous spirit by all whose lives she touched. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Wilcox Hotel in Aiken, on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. followed by a private carriage drive in Hitchcock Woods, weather permitting. The service will also be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hitchcock Woods Foundation are welcomed in her memory (https://www.hitchcockwoods.org). Full Obituary and guest book can be found at www.shellhousefuneralhome.com

I still cannot believe she is gone. She was the great connector. What a life well-lived, well-loved. And, whoever wrote her obituary captured the essence of her magnificently connecting life. I hoped to see her in Aiken, but our schedules never meshed and for that I am forever saddened at the thought of "never" because Melanie would never says never. My loss. Melanie has been on my mind since learning of her surprised passing from one of "band of sisters", Anne Guley. She was my twin's prom date and I know he has welcomed her in heaven with open arms. My mom and dad loved her visits and she always made time for them and for that I will forever be thankful.
