Ruby Smith

Ruby Stone Simmons Smith went home to be with the Lord on April 6, 2025. She was born on October 15, 1938 to Roy and Carlyne Stone in Surry County. She was a native and resident of Pilot Mountain, NC. Ruby was a loving wife, sister, aunt, friend, and "Mawmaw". She enjoyed going to breakfast with her friends every Tuesday, celebrating family birthdays and special events and holidays, shopping, and joy riding with Pattie Wall. She lived life to the fullest and especially loved spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Thomas W. Simmons and Jerry K. Smith Sr., brother Roger Stone, sister Mildred Johnson, and nephew Dean Stone. She is survived by her brother, Mike Stone (Jean Carol) of Pilot Mountain, sister-in-law Sara Stone of Pilot Mountain, step-son Jerry Keith Smith Jr. (Susan) and step grandchildren Krista and Suanna of Wake Forest, NC. Also, surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Ruby retired from banking after 35 years of service. She was a woman of faith and a member of First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain for many years. The family would like to recognize special caregivers that meant the world to Ruby. Her brother, Mike Stone, nephew, Robby Stone and wife Jennifer along with "grandchildren" Calista and Chloe Stone. She was known as "Mawmaw" to all of them. Christi Craig was a wonderful caregiver and became a very special friend to Ruby as well. Pattie Wall and Jane Snow were Ruby's best friends and always took care of her in times of need. She loved each of those in her life with a big heart. A special thank you to all of the sweet caregiving staff of Mountain Valley Hospice of Surry County, NC.

Funeral services were held at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Tuesday April 8, 2025, at 2:00pm with Will Eads officiating. The burial was after the service in the Pilot Mountain City Cemetery.
