Mr. Roger Delano Mayes, age 75, of Mount Airy, passed away at his residence Saturday morning, March 14, 2026. Mr. Mayes was born in Surry County, on November 4, 1950, to the late Swanson Monroe and Effie Fannie Parker Mayes. Roger worked many years as a fixer in the hosiery mills. Mr. Mayes was a loving father, grandfather, sibling and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memory is the mother of his son, Glenda Goodwill; son and his fiancé, Roderic “Rod” Mayes and Rebecca Lowe; 4 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sisters, Linda Hooker, Sylvia Hayden; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Tammy Jo Mayes. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mayes was preceded in death by brothers, Swanson Leon Mayes and Nathaniel “Buck” Mayes; brother-in-law, Danny Hooker. Per Mr. Mayes request there will not be any formal services held at this time. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Mayes family.
