Walter Junior Cloud, 87, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday afternoon, Feb. 20, 2022, at Northern Regional Hospital. Mr. Cloud was born Dec. 8, 1934, in Virginia, the only child born to the late Walter Sherman and Hazel Adeline McGrady Cloud. Junior worked as a sales associate at Tickle's Auto Parts for many years. Later, he worked at Joyce Automotive and was currently employed at Factory Motor Parts. He was a faithful member of Midway Baptist Church, and he was affectionately known as "The Candy Man" at church. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and David Thomas of Mount Airy; a great-grandson, Carter Thomas of Pilot Mountain; his bonus family, Amanda, Joseph, Logan, Rylan, and Ella Holt, all of Pilot Mountain; and his three cats, with all three known as "Cat." In addition to his parents, Mr. Cloud was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Joy Vernon Cloud; and his grandson, David Lee Thomas. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Phillips officiating. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of food and flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midway Baptist Church, 1015 North Franklin Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or The Skilled Nursing Unit at Northern Regional Hospital, 830 Rockford Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
