Catherine B. "Cathy" Orrino
May 24, 1952 - February 23, 2023
Catherine B. (Cathy) Orrino, 70, passed away from complications due to heart disease on February 23, 2023 at Community Hospital of Anaconda surrounded by family and friends.
Cathy was born to Alfred and Emma (Martelli) Orrino on May 24, 1952 in Anaconda, MT. She was the youngest of three sisters.
Cathy met the love of her life, Gary Sagen, in 1979 and the two were married in Anaconda on December 8, 1979. They spent 30 wonderful years together until Gary lost his battle with Leukemia on November 4, 2009. They were truly soul mates.
Cathy graduated high school from Anaconda Central in 1970 and graduated college from College of St. Catherine's in St. Paul, Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in sociology.
Cathy started working full time at Montana State Hospital after her college graduation in 1974. Cathy was still employed there 48 years later at the time of her passing. Cathy was the Forensic Mental Health Facility Admissions Manager at the Galen Campus. She was very dedicated to her work and treated all patients and fellow employees with respect and compassion. Cathy worked closely with all of the state and county agencies and formed lasting relationships with all of them. Cathy very much enjoyed her "work family" and made many lifelong friends along the way. Because of Cathy's work ethic and dedication she was awarded the Governor's Award for Excellence in Performance in 2013 from former Governor Bullock. Cathy was always very humble, but she was very pleased to be recognized for her work.
Cathy's hobbies were spending time with family and friends when she was away from work and enjoyed attending local sporting events with family. She always enjoyed entertaining when her sister Mary and her family came to town to visit. Cathy's true passion was caring for people. She always made sure that her relatives, friends, neighbors and Gary had everything they needed.
Cathy is survived by her sister, Mary Gay of Lake Oswego, Oregon; nephew, Mark Torney, wife, Betty and their daughter, Bianca of Anaconda; nephew, Ed Gay of Reno, Nevada; niece, Emily Jensen, husband, Jeff and their children: Emma and Jeffrey of Lafayette, California and her very dear friends through the years at Montana State Hospital.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary Sagen (2009); sister, Anna Torney (2018); brother-in-law, Jack Torney (2005) and niece, Lori Ann Torney (1977).
A Funeral Mass for Cathy will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 217 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Anaconda, MT at 10:30 a.m. A one-hour visitation will take place prior to the Mass beginning at 9:30 a.m. Following the Mass, a graveside service will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery, W. 5th Street, Anaconda, MT. Immediately following the graveside service, a luncheon will be held in the Hunthausen Center of Holy Family Catholic Church.
The Orrino family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the donor's choice in Cathy's name.

Please accept my sincere condolences on Cathy´s passing. I am so saddened to hear this news. I had the pleasure of speaking with Cathy multiple times in the last year and she was so very helpful to my son who is hospitalized. She was the most caring and compassionate person I have ever spoken with in that setting and so committed to her work. The world has lost a beautiful soul. Julie from Maine

To the Orrino Family. I knew the Family for the last 40 years. Cathy was younger, but I got to know her through her Mom Emma. As people have said, Cathy was an Example of what Social Workers need to be! She was an Advocate for many and loved her clients as family. Rest in Peace Cathy
