Charles Merrifield Obituary
Duggan Dolan
MERRIFIELD - Mr. Charles Gene Merrifield passed away on Monday at his residence. Friends may call on Tuesday after 10:00 am in St. Ann's Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. A complete obituary will be published in a later edition of the Montana Standard.

Mr Merrifield was one of our track coaches in the 1960s. His Dad, Jim, often drove our school bus to the track meets. Both were wonderful men and great examples of role models to look up to.
Charlie Merrifield was a very very good coach and cared about us. He was one of the most dedicated coaches and teachers that all of us at Butte High School were fortunate to have.
Between Swede Dahlberg, Bill Hawke, George Tarrant and Charlie Merrifield, we were coached well in track and in life.
We are eternally grateful for them.
God Bless them all and God´s Speed to Coach Merrifield. He leaves quite a legacy to us all. Thank you.

A great guy. I remember our river float on the Dillon river in the 1950's when we were students@ Western. the rubber raft over turned. We were lucky to survive. RIP. Bert Luce

Coach Merrifield was was more than a coach. He genuinely cared about his students and the athletes he coached. My deepest condolences to his entire family and all those who were fortunate enough to be his extended `coached´ family. He remains a great human being who touched the lives of so many.

I really loved Charlie. He was more than a coach, though he was truly an exceptional coach, father-figure and mentor to several generations of math students and track athletes. Offering condolences to Betty, Liza, Jim, Chuck and all of the Merrifield clan. Charlie was the kind of man that made others proud to be from Butte.
