Dennis Haggerty
May 26, 1960 - July 27, 2024
MISSOURI CITY, TX - Dennis passed away suddenly on July 27, 2024. Without a hint that any physical caution was warranted, he shot free throws on the basketball court that evening until he was called from this life.
Dennis was born in Long Beach, CA to Mike and Patty Haggerty on May 26, 1960. Dennis attended schools in Butte, MT, a West Sider, and was on the undefeated Butte High Bulldogs football team in 1977. A key defensive player on one of the best defenses in state history, Dennis was inducted into the Butte Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. Graduating from Montana Tech University, he became a Petroleum Engineer.
His career took him to the Illinois Geological Survey, where he met Nancy Taaffe who would become his wife. Next career stops were to Houston and Fort Worth, TX, where Dennis had opportunity to travel extensively internationally, patent new procedures, and be named company MVP for the research he presented on his travels. He found ways to experience each country he visited as time allowed - a favorite was kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland.
The central core of Dennis' life was his family. Ever devoted to his wife, son and daughter, the four thrived as a team that adventured together until the very last day. Quinn, the black lab, was always included and we are certain that he was at the door waiting when Dennis arrived. Dennis loved Montana life - hiking, hunting, fishing, and weekends at the Birch Creek cabin. He was an enthusiast of all competitive sports - conversing about players and stats, trying new sports, and perpetually working to improve his golf game. He eagerly took on mental and physical challenges of all sorts, striving to surpass expectations and discover something new. He was eternally optimistic, maintained infinite patience, and had a heart for helping wherever a friend or total stranger needed assistance. He was our Hero, and we will miss him all of our days.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Nancy Haggerty; son, Aidan Haggerty and daughter, Fiona Haggerty; parents: Mike and Patty Haggerty; brother, Tim (Pam) Haggerty and sister, Laura Janes; nieces: Kara (Mike) Miller and Shawn (Ted) McDermott; nephews: Ryan Janes and Mike Haggerty; and a great many extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his brother Shane Haggerty and brother in law Glenn Janes.
Final resting place will be in Butte, MT.
A Celebration of Life will take place on a later date.
A GoFundMe has been established to aid the completion of his daughter's college education and transitional expenses for the family. It can be accessed online at: GoFundMe.comDennis-Haggerty-Benefit

I was shocked to hear of Dennis's passing. The last time I saw Dennis was at our Butte High 45th class reunion. Dennis never changed from elementary, Junior High, or High school. "Haggs" was always cheerful and could put a smile on your face. It was great catching up with him. At Dennis's celebration of life in Butte it was nice to see Patty, Nancy, Tim, Pam, and meet Fiona and Aidan. Rest in peace Haggs. You've left a huge void in everyone's hearts.

Please accept my sympathy on the passing of Dennis. Dennis and I were classmates growing up on Butte´s West Side. Dennis was a great kid - full of energy (and opinions!) and always fun to be around.
