Frederick Ogolin Obituary
February 12, 1947 - January 15, 2026
Frederick Stanley Ogolin, 78, of Butte, Montana, passed away on January 15, 2026. Born on February 12, 1947, in Butte to Fred J. and Edith (Edwards) Ogolin, Fred lived a life grounded in hard work and devotion to family.
Fred graduated from Butte High School in 1965 and went on to earn an Associate Degree in Business from Montana Tech. He spent over 30 years in bank management, serving his community with integrity and dependability. After retiring from banking at age 55, Fred embraced what he fondly called a 'hobby job' driving a school bus for the Butte School District. That hobby became a second 20-year career, a testament to his tireless work ethic and desire to help others.
On July 1, 1967, Fred married the love of his life, Karolyn (Daniels) Ogolin. Together they built a strong, loving family. Fred was a devoted father to Mark (Dannette) Ogolin and Keith (Shaunna) Ogolin. He was incredibly proud of his grandchildren, Ashleigh (Viktor) Babak, Hailey (Nate) Thompson, and Brian Ogolin; and later, his great-grandchildren, Quinn, Beau, and Colt Thompson. His family was his greatest joy, and he showed up for them in every way that mattered.
Fred was active throughout his life and enjoyed baseball, bowling, and later developed a deep passion for golf. He was a proud member of the Butte Country Club for 40 years, cherishing his Saturday morning golf group and the friendships he built there. Fred also loved fishing, camping, and spending peaceful days with Karolyn at Wise River and Boulder Creek, where they created countless treasured memories.
Known to many as 'Pop' or 'Pops', Fred was the kind of man who would help anyone with anything. Whether fixing something broken or offering steady support, he led by example and was always dependable to show up for his friends and family. His impact on those who knew him is immeasurable.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred J. and Edith Ogolin. He is survived by his beloved wife Karolyn; his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and many friends who were like family.
A Funeral Liturgy was held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Holy Spirit Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Fred are suggested to a foundation of the donor's choice.
