Jerry Ogolin Obituary

Jerry Ogolin

Gerald 'Jerry' Ogolin passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in Yerington, Nevada after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Jerry felt in his heart that it was Heavenly Father's plan for him and prayed daily "Thy will be done." Jerry was born on February 22, 1962 in Butte, Montana to Don and Bev Ogolin. He grew up in Butte where he hunted, fished, golfed and snow skied with his Mom, Dad and his best friend and brother, Jamie. He truly loved his family and growing up in the state of Montana. He graduated from Butte High School in 1980. He then went on to earn his college degree in education at the University of Montana in 1988. He started his teaching career in Colstrip, Montana before relocating to Nevada. Jerry taught several classes ranging from elementary school, middle school math to even life skills class. He further pursued his education and received his Master's degree in administration in 2005. He soon became the Assistant Principal and then Principal of Yerington High School, which he considered the greatest job in the world. Mr. Ogolin truly loved each and every one of his students.

Jerry married Kendra Daniels in 1993 and became the step dad to Gabriel Hulse. His son, Chase was then born in June 1995. Chase was definitely a highlight in Jerry's life. Jerry then married Sandra Banta in May 2005, after dating for three weeks. It must have been love at first sight. By marrying Sandra, he became step Dad to Alyssa, Stephen and Bailee. He could not have been more proud of all five of his kids! Jerry's passions included golf, hunting, listening to and singing country music, watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Montana Grizzlies, but most of all spending time with his family and his best friend and soul mate, Sandra. Jerry was very charismatic. He genuinely enjoyed talking to people. Strangers to him were just friends he had yet to meet. Jerry never really knew the influence he had on so many people and all of the lives he touched.

Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Dorothy Bersanti; grandparents, Joe and Edith Ogolin, Uncle Albert 'Sonny' Bersanti, Edith and Tyrone Locke, and an infant son, Jeramie Allen Ogolin.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra and children, Chase, Alyssa, Kellen, Stephen, Gabriel and Bailee; grandchildren, Harper and Lohne; his parents, Don and Bev Ogolin; his brother, Jamie and sister-in-law, Kristy and nieces, Tori and Alex; Aunt Lee Bersanti and families; Uncle Bill and Aunt Carol Skerjanc; Ronald and Darlene Triner; Bert and Nancy Triner and Ron and Bern Garbarino. Also by his in laws, Fred and Julie Jones, brother in law, Mike Jones and sister in law, Jennifer and nephews, Dominic and Derek; Grandparents in law, Don and Marjorie Boreham and Georgiana Jones and a "brother from another mother," Duane Boreham.

Jerry did not wish to have a funeral, instead we will be having an "Assembly" to honor him on Monday, December 10, 2012 at 10:00 am in the Yerington High School Gym. Every one is invited, so wear your purple and white and come pay tribute to a man who lived life to the fullest!!!

Jerry was always upbeat and loved stirring it up. He kept us fellow administrators on our toes while teaching us not to take life too seriously. Live for the moment.

I worked with Jerry at FIS. He inspired his students and was a true friend. I remember spending noon playing cribbage with him. He will be missed by so many. My heart goes out to his family. May all the warm memories give you some comfort.

I will really miss seeing Jerry's bright smile and feel his cheery personality and outlook, it was always positive. One memory I will recall is I think before he'd even served a day of school as principal how excited and peppy he and Allan Ross, a new VP, were as they watched Yerington play a good Douglas team in the championship match of the Yerington Tourney that Aug. 2006. Then I recall that photo I took of him holding up the state championship vb trophy in the middle of Pearl Street later that year, with that huge smile. He really loved his school and his students, that was always apparent. I really enjoyed standing near him and Sandra and visiting with them near the stage of this past NIC, teasing each other about Toni and Bailee leaving with older cowboys and him singing along to some of the songs, it will be different next year. He made my daughter's day by giving her the pass to get into the Golden Circle and anyone else calling her Anthony just won't be the same. I know Montana having a down football season was tough for his this year. Sorry this is so long, but thought I'd share some thoughts here. I don't know if I can make it Monday, plus don't like to cry in public, but sure someone will record and would like to listen later.
With best wishes, Keith Trout and family.

Jerry, I enjoyed serving on various accreditation teams with you. Your vibrant energy and passion for great education inspired me, as a teacher. While visiting YHS as part of the accreditation team, I saw your pride for your staff and your kids. Your smile that day could've lit up the town of Yerington for years to come. Thank you for all you did. You will be missed.

My heart goes out to all of you. Our whole family was so saddened to hear of Jerry's passing. Although I haven't seen him in years, I have special memories of a cousin with the cutest smile and fun happy personality. I am sure that he touched the life of everyone he ever met for good and he will be miss beyond words. My heart and prayers go out to all his family, especially to Bev, Don, and Jamie, his wife and children. He will never be forgotten and when we think of him it will be with love and a smile for the way he touched our lives.
With love,
