Judith (Judy) Corbin, 85
May 5, 1937 - December 2, 2022
Judy Corbin passed away peacefully, in her sleep, on December 2nd, 2022.
She was born May 5, 1937, in Eveleth, Minnesota, to Edward and Isabel Schutte. Soon after, they moved to Butte, where Ed had found work as a miner.
Not long after that, her baby brother Mick joined the family, and proved to be a fairly large thorn in his sister's side, as she was used to running the show.
Judy graduated from Butte Central in 1955 and continued on to Gonzaga University, finishing with a degree in chemistry and the additional training necessary to become a medical technologist.
While working at St. James Hospital in 1960, she was set up on a blind date with LeRoy Corbin of Philipsburg, by her lifelong friend Kathy Lauffer.
The rest, as they say, is history, and they were married at St. Ann's church on December 30, 1961.
Daughter Kathy and son Gary were both born in Bozeman while LeRoy finished school, and after a brief stop in Rudyard, MT, the couple found work in Butte and moved back to raise their family.
1967 featured the arrival of baby sister Karen, and the clan was complete.
Family vacations in the Wagoneer, and camping trips, were mainstays for the family, as well as enjoying time spent at the cabin in Elk Park. Mom and Dad made sure that family time was enjoyed with close friends, including the Filpulas, Calcaterras, Pearsons, Lauffers and, of course, the Lyons family.
In 1989, they built their dream house, across the street from their old one, and Judy lived there for the rest of her life, tending to her garden and famous raspberry patch as well as watching her grandchildren grow.
Judy and LeRoy retired in the 90's and took many trips to visit friends and family out-of-state, while enjoying their time together. Camping and floating on the Big Hole was job one every summer.
Dad passed away in 2009 after an extended illness. Mom took care of Dad up until the end and had missed him every day since.
In the years following, mom kept busy with grandkids, friends, and especially with her brother Mick and Aunt Bette, who made sure she kept active with walks and spinning time. Time was also spent traveling with college classmates to the WCC basketball tourney in Vegas, cheering on the Gonzaga Bulldogs with her bestie Mary Lou Lane.
Recently, mom looked forward to her weekly gambling day with her friends, and the high stakes penny ante game served her competitive nature well. The Indianapolis Colts were her team, and she took each loss hard, often cursing at the TV!
Mom enjoyed good health throughout her long, great life, and although we will miss her, we are comforted knowing that she is reunited with Dad and her folks and will continue to look after us all.
Special thanks to Dan and Jug Steiner, and her awesome neighbors Dick and Candi Nichols, for looking after mom and being such good friends.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Kathy and son-in-law, Paul Comba, their children, Jeremy (Melissa) and their daughter, Elliana, and daughter, McKenzie, son, Gary Corbin and his children, Jack, Quinn and Eli; and her baby daughter, Karen who did a fine job of looking after mom this last year. Also surviving her are her brother, Dr. Edward Schutte and his wife Bette; nephews Trent (Judy) Schutte and Seth (Tijana) Schutte plus numerous grand-nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 10:00am to 11:00am in St. Patrick's Church for visitations. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am. Private family Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Butte Central Education Foundation or the Butte Food Bank in Judy's name.
