October 21, 1942 - July 16, 2024
BUTTE - Marie A. Cavanaugh Steyh passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 16, 2024 in Butte, MT. Marie was born in Butte, MT on October 21, 1942 as the middle child to John Edward "Ted" Cavanaugh and Doris Marie (Parent) Cavanaugh.
Marie attended St. Lawrence and McKinley Schools with graduation from Butte Girls Central High School in 1960. She received her Registered Nursing degree from St. Pat's School of Nursing in Missoula in 1963. Later, she attended UCLA Harbor Medical School for a short time.
Marie married William B. "Bill" Steyh in 1964 and later divorcing in 1982. Together they had two children, Susan and William. Marie had many nursing jobs working at the Old St. James Hospital, Warm Springs and Galen Hospitals, Rivendell, Boulder Mental Hospital, Montana State Men's Prison, Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch, Butte Family Planning, and The School for the Deaf and Blind. She attended Mardi Gras twice, traveled several times to Mexico, Hawaii, Palm Springs and Las Vegas. She had many traveling companions as well as many beloved friends. She always met someone new along the way. Marie also enjoyed volunteering at local festivals, whether it was sitting at the entrances, helping in the beer gardens or just listening to music in the shade with her favorite drink. She never missed a chance to people watch. She volunteered for the Butte Chamber of Commerce and helped in the hospitality rooms at sporting events. She loved to line dance and always had a smile on her face and a hug for everyone.
Both her parents and brother, Tom Cavanaugh preceded her in death.
Marie is survived by her brother, John Cavanaugh (Cody); son, Will and Joyce Steyh (Marisa, Christopher and McKinly Kramer (Danny Peoples); daughter, Sue and Scott Irvin (Kinsey); and great-granddaughter, Opal Edwards-Steyh.
A special thank you to her brother, John for being her best friend and companion until the end. Also, a special thank you to her granddaughter, Marisa for all the love and care you gave to grandma for the past several years. My friend forever! I met Marie in Los Angeles in 1987 at Harbor/ UCLA medical center. We became friend immediately!
We continued our friendship long distance with many visits and trips together. She became an "Aunt" or even
A second mother to my kids and grandkids. We will miss her, think of her, and thank God I met her for all the years in the past and for the future. We love you forever Barbara
