Mary Patricia Rooney, 69
May 24, 1952 – March 01, 2022
Mary Pat (Gordon) Rooney passed away March 1st, 2022, in the arms of her family. She was born May 24th, 1952, to Voyde and Kate (McDevitt) Gordon, and welcomed to the family by brothers Owen, John, and Mick, and sisters Nola and Cathy. The family was now complete.
Mary Pat loved growing up on the hill in a large extended family. She skated at the Virginia Street Rink, rode sleds down Elenore's Hill, played on the "big rocks", hiked to the M, and rode the bus to The Columbia Gardens on Thursdays. She enjoyed many family picnics and gatherings. Summer vacations involved loading all six kids into the car for trips to Salt Lake City and Heber City, Utah to see even more family.
Her dad worked in the mines and money was tight, but she never felt the effects. Her mom and dad made sure there were always Christmas gifts, and cake and ice cream and gifts for birthdays. There was never a lack of love in the home.
Mary Pat attended St. Mary's and St Lawrence grade schools and graduated from Butte High School in 1970. She then went on to Western Montana College where she made lasting friendships, graduating with a BacheIor's Degree in Business.
She worked for various businesses throughout her career, including Barrick Mining in Elko, Nevada. She retired from Town Pump Corporate Office due to health reasons. In 1985, she married Tm Rooney in Butte. Together they had two wonderful daughters, Katie and Lisa. They later divorced but remained good friends and co-parents until Tm's death in1994. Mary Pat continued to raise her girls with love, understanding, and lots and lots of patience.
Raising two daughters on her own was never easy, but she did the best she could, and her daughters never forgot how much she loved them. She received her biggest blessings when her granddaughter, Aidan, was born in 2002, and then again in 2013 with the birth of her grandson, Finn. She and Lisa lived together, and she took great pride in helping raise Finn. She was the proudest grandmother you could ever meet, and we will continue to remind Aidan and Finn how much she loved them.
She continued the traditions of loading the kids up in the car for trips to Salt Lake City to see family, and helping plan family picnics at Homestake. Her family will never forget her laughter and giving nature.
Mary Pat was an avid bowler and dart player, continuing with the dart league well into her 60s. Katie and Lisa remember finding her many pins and awards around the house, and eventually Mary Pat convinced them to join. They weren't that good, but they always had fun playing darts with their mom.
In her later years, Mary Pat enjoyed going to the Belmont Senior Center with her brother Owen, as well as many card games with her sister Cathy and sister-in-law Shirley and friends. She also looked forward to lunch dates, craft days, and Walmart trips with her friend, Susie.
Mary Pat is preceded in death by her parents Voyde and Kate, her brothers John, Owen, and Mick, and her sisters Louise and Nola.
She is survived by her daughters Katie and Lisa, her grandchildren Aidan and Finn, her sister Cathy Scarff, sister-in-law Shirley Gordon, brother-in-law Victor Lorengo, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her dearest friend Susie Dennehy.
Mary Pat's family would like to give a special thanks to the medical staff at St. James Hospital for their compassion and kindness during her final days, as well as the EMTs that arrived to get her to the hospital as quickly as possible.
Services will take place on Friday, March 11th, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the Duggan Dolan Mortuary Chapel, 1805 Meadowlark Ln, in Butte. A reception will be held immediately following the service at The East Side Athletic Club, 3200 Dexter St, in Butte.

I came across your name by chance Mary. You bare the same name as my grandmother who passed in the 1959s. A sweet woman she was. May you rest in peace Mary Gordon Rooney. My dad, a Rooney born 1922, grew up on Henry Street. Perhaps a distant cousin to Tim. Prayers for your happily ever after and sweet memories for those who remember and miss you.
