Beloved father, brother, son, husband, Michael Jude Venner, died due to a sudden illness on Monday afternoon, Aug. 14, 2006, in St. James Healthcare.
Michael was born in Butte on May 28, 1967, to Herb and Kitty Venner. He attended McKinley Grade School, North Central Junior High, and graduated from Butte Central High School in 1985. Mike attended the University of Montana and graduated from Montana Tech in computer science and business information systems.
Mike married Stacy Reed on July 2, 1994, in Butte. He managed various food services in Butte, and managed the Butte Plaza Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and most recently, the Hampton Inn, his dream job. Mike earned his Certified Hotel Administration certificate in 2005. He served on many boards and associations, including Board of Montana Innkeepers Association; Butte Convention Visitors Bureau; governor for Best Western District 2, representing Montana; and president of Butte Hotel Association for the past three years.
Mike was recognized throughout Montana as an exceptional hotel manager. He had many passions in life, but none more important than his family. Spending time with his two children was always his top priority. He was an avid golfer, ardent Grizzly fan and followed NASCAR racing.
Throughout his life, Mike ardently supported plans for Butte Economic Development and had great dreams for Butte's future. He supported local sports and youth programs.
Mike was exceptionally generous, had a gift for making people feel important and at ease, and a sense of laughter and humor even in difficult situations. Because he loved people, he had friends everywhere.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herb and Rose Venner, Paddy and Ann Lee, Freda and Willard Reed, Mary Horvath and Fred Venzon and Margie and Reinhard Franz; and by his aunt, Mary Foley.
He is survived by his wife, Stacy; children, Donovan and Turea; parents, Herb and Kitty Venner of Butte; sister and brother-in-law, Pam (Tom) Quinn of Butte and Mark (Trisha) Venner of Billings; aunts and uncles, Roseanne and Dale Carpenter, Melrose, Patsy and Larry Hicks, Seattle, Paddy and Marilyn Lee, Kalispell, Ed Foley Sr., and John and Kathy Lee of Butte; father-in-law, Darald Reed of Butte; mother and father-in-law, Linda and Dennis Franz of Great Falls; brother-in-law, Dennis (Paula) Reed of Great Falls; nieces and nephews, Colt Quinn, Butte, Cassidy and Kennedy Venner, Billings, Brandi and Spencer Reed, California, Joseph Maney, Great Falls; cousins, Jean Cislo, Dale Carpenter Jr., Sylvia Carpenter, Sheila Hansen, Travis and Davey Carpenter, Jeff and Mickey Cislo, Ed (Tracey) Foley Jr., Teri (Ed) Fisher, Dan Foley, Patrick Lee, John (Kate) Lee, Angie Lee.
Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Ann's Catholic Church for visitations. Parish vigil services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Ann's Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Mausoleum.
Donations may be made to the Venner Children's Memorial Fund at Mile High Federal Credit Union, Box 3152, Butte, MT 59702.

Donovan, Turea, & all the Venner Family,
MIKE WAS LIKE THE STARS..... YOU DIDN'T ALWAYS SEE HIM, BUT YOU KNEW HE WAS THERE." Your Dad's memory will live on forever through all who knew him. I, for one, am very grateful that I was blessed enough to have had the opportunity to know & work for Mike. "A TRUE FRIEND IS SOMEONE WHO REACHES FOR YOUR HAND AND THEN TOUCHES YOUR HEART." Every time I think of Mike these words ring out to me. They describe Mike perfectly, and so wonderfully put. Mike you are dearly missed by all, I will never forget what I have learned from him. God Bless all of you, Donovan, Turea, & the entire Venner Family

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mike's family on their loss. Mike was a year behind me in junior high and high school. Such a shame. I grew up across the alley from Mike, knowing him since I was 5. He was always a person that no matter what he was doing he always had a couple minutes to stop and chat. The last several times I spent time with him was when I was dealing poker and he was bartending at the Depot. He was one of those rare people that really truly never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He looked for the good in everything and everybody and never failed to find it. I will miss seeing him, which seemed like it happened everywhere, he was always involved in giving to the community. Best wishes to Pam and Mark. I haven't seen either of you in a long time and wish you all the best.

Dear Venner Family,
I was deeply saddened, as was all of the hospitality industry in Montana, to hear of Mike's untimely and tragic passing. Mike was an enthusiastic and important part of the Montana Innkeepers Board, and his absence will be felt within the entire organization. MIke will always have a special place in my memory.
I wish for all your family the faith to provide the healing of this wound and peace within yourselves.

Venner Gang,
I am absolutely devastated over this mind-numbing loss of the “brother I never had”. Mike’s ever-forgiving, unselfish and can-do nature will be missed. I know my mom felt extremely blessed to know I was “cruising the drag” with Mike knowing that together we wouldn’t get it too much trouble.
Kitty, as I try to understand why this happened and why my friend was taken… I find no answers. To help myself, I think of the happy times which brings a smile to my face. So, I hope this memory makes you smile….
You have three hungry boys in your house (Mike, Ron James and Chris Stuart). Kitty is nice enough to cook up some tacos for us all. As I take my first bite I think, “What the hell did Kitty do to these tacos”? “Mike did your mom pour a ton of salt into the meat”? As Mike’s face grimaces with his first bite he gets up to see what his mom had done. Stuy seems unphased and continues to eat. Mike then holds up the paper that wrapped the meat which read “Pork Sausage”.
Mike’s reply with a large smile was “Ahh Kitty, You gotta love her and you know I do”.
That’s the Mike I remember, cherish, love and call brother.
Love,
"Ronny John" James

Words cannot describe the pain in my heart over the loss of my dearest friend 'Ven-Dog' /'Eddie Munster' ! What a true friend who always greeted me with a hug and a kiss and a 'hello Mama'! I cannot remember not knowing Mike and that has been a true blessing for me. From McKinley to the Days of our Lives Club at Tech to Missoula to his wedding to the birth of his kids I have been fortunate to be a part of his life. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. My family and the Venners spent time together as children, mainly in Butte. Some of my favorite memories are of 4th of July at Herb and Kitty's with Mike, Pam, and Mark. Venner Family,
Terri and I are extremely saddened to hear about the passing of Mike. I have known Mike for many years and will truly miss him. Over the years, we always stayed at Mike's hotels. He made certain there was always room at the inn!
Since Mike had such a broad network of friends and contacts, he was always able to share updates on mutual friends. Visiting Mike was part of every trip to Montana. He was often the first and last person we would see in town during our travels. We will miss the stories and his friendship.
For us and many others, every visit to Butte in the future will invoke memories of Mike and how fortunate we were to have known him.

Stacy, Pam, Mark and All of the Venner Family,
I was so saddened to hear about the loss of Mike on Monday. You and all of your family have been in my thoughts and prayers continually. It is such a tragedy to lose someone so fast it goes beyond words. Mike was such a great person. He and his smile will never be forgotten. I was fortunate that I would ususally see Mike when I made it to Butte. I do have to say that my brother, Jeff, was probably pretty happy to see Mike coming through those Pearly Gates. His old golfing buddy! So just remember, whenever you hear a little "rumble" from up above, it's Mike and the boys sinking another putt!

Mike was the greatest guy and real kick in the pants! He made me laugh till I cried. He always treated me like a celebrity and I will never forget him or his kindness. Devastating tragedy is the first thing I think of when I think of Mike Venner's death. He was too young, too nice, and too important to die. I will always miss him. I am furious at his death. Mike's Family,
Words can't justify the loss of Mike. I have known Mike since 7th grade at North Central, his personality has always been the same as long as I knew him. Mike was the essential "people person", and I never heard him say a bad thing about anyone. My only regret is that I wasn't closer to him lately. Work gets in the way of a lot of good friendships, and this I regret.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Stacy, Donovan and Tureah as well as the whole Venner Family.
I worked with Mike at the Holiday Inn Express for 3 years and he is by far one of my favorite people in the world. Not only was he a great boss and friend but he was also a wonderful father. He will truly be missed by many people across the state of Montana.

Mike was an incredible and wonderful person, one of the nicest guys that I think I have ever met. His smile and laugh brought smiles to all of the people around him. My deepest sympathy goes out to his immediate family, brother Mark (Bubba) and mom (Kitty) and father (Herb). Mike will always be in my prayers!

Stacy and family, Wishing you comfort and peace at this difficult time. It's harad to accept what God's plans are, but he loans us only for a little while then we must go home again. Mike is now at peace and nothing and no one can hurt him again.

Dear Kitty,Pam,and Bubba
I am so sorry to hear about your loss of Mike. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of loss. Mike was a great person and always fun to be around. I have a lot of fun memories of Mike during our times in high school and college. Infact I had the opportunity to see him this year at Evel Knievel days and he still had his smile and great attitude. He will be sadly missed by very many people. May he rest in peace.
