Robert Darlington Obituary

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Robert Howard Darlington, 73, who died Sunday, Nov. 20, at 11:05 a.m. at his residence in Lafayette, La.

The Rev. Ed Boyd, Asbury United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Bob was born in Butte, on Mother's Day, May 8, 1932. He graduated from the Montana School of Mines as a petroleum engineer. After working in Wyoming for two years, with Chevron Oil Co., he was transferred with his family to New Orleans in 1960 and Lafayette in 1974. After 34 years with Chevron, he chose to retire in Lafayette because of the good friendships here.

He enjoyed tournament bridge and was a Life Master Duplicate Bridge player. His years of retirement were spent playing bridge, working cryptograms and traveling extensively with a group of friends, and his wife's sister and husband, Ruby and Andrew Mulan. His hobbies were building model airplanes and repairing old clocks.

Together, Bob and his brother, John, joined the Army where Bob served as a medic, and John drove an ambulance.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on a cruise two years ago, with their children and grandchildren; sons, Howard Darlington and his wife, Carol, and William Darlington; daughter, Lisa Navaille and her husband, Jeffrey; four grandchildren, Quinn Darlington, Zoe Darlington, Wesley Navaille, and Ian Navaille; brothers, John Darlington and his wife, Ann, and Jim Darlington; sister, Bonnie Backstrom; a special cousin, Gerald Sullivan and his wife, Many Frances, of Georgetown, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Darlington and the former Ruth Von Seidletz.

Dear Audrey, Such sad news for any family. My heart goes out to you, my grade/high school friend.

We missed you and Bob at 50th reunion, but it is a long way. You both looked tremendous the last time we were together. Other Emerson friends will undoubtedly be letting you know we are all thinking of you. Love, Marilyn
