Ruby Jane Keltz, 76, of Deer Lodge died in St. James Healthcare on March 14, 2008.
Ruby was born in Bozeman on April 25, 1931, to Virgie Mae Swagarty and Walter Emmett Hedges. She was the youngest of six children.
She married Emmett William "Bill" Keltz on June 22, 1947, in Livingston. They lived in Bozeman until moving to Deer Lodge in 1958 where she worked for 4B's Restaurant, Anthony's clothing store for 25 years, and the Registrar of Motor Vehicles for 12 years. She retired from the registrar's office in April 1993 to take care of her husband Bill until he passed away on Jan. 13, 1994.
Mom enjoyed bowling and painting ceramics - both things she did with her daughters. Most of all she loved and enjoyed her family.
We spent many weekends traveling to Bozeman, Livingston and Fourth of July reunions in Whitehall to be with her family members and Dad's. Mom especially loved and enjoyed being with her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Ruby was preceded in death by her mother, Virgie Mae Hedges; her father, Walter Emmett Hedges; husband, Bill Keltz; infant daughter, Cheryal Louise; sisters, Ella Mae Jones and Clara "Belles" Backman; brothers, Emmett Hedges and Chuck Hedges; and son-in-law, Dennis Phillips.
Survivors include daughters, Sheryal "Sherry" Strong of Helena, Gail (Tom) Cramer of Melrose, and Karen "Kay" Phillips of Butte; brother, Howard (Jody) Hedges of Whitehall; sisters-in-law, Arlene Haugland Of Bozeman, Maxine Bush of Phoenix, Ariz.; son-in-law, Elmer Strong of Elliston; grandchildren, Jani (Mark) LaFave of Helena, Julie Strong (Dan Bethke) of Helena, Lisa (Lucas) Newman of Portland, Ore., Kris Phillips (Kyle Gadbois) of San Diego, Mike (Elaine) Cramer of Polson, Dan (Christina) Cramer of Melrose, and Leslie (Jack) Myers of Reed Point.
She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Katie and Ashlyn LaFave of Helena, Lily Newman of Portland, Ore., Andy and Faith Cramer of Polson, Madison Cramer of Melrose, and Zane Myers of Reed Point, and numerous nieces and nephews who were special to her.
We love and miss you mom and we know you are now in a better place.
Funeral services will be held at Jewel Funeral Home in Deer Lodge at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008. A viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18.
