William Egan Obituary

William Ryan Egan, 43, of Butte, Montana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on January 6th, 2026.

Ryan was born on August 6, 1982, in Butte, Montana, to William and Laurel (Erickson) Egan. A proud Butte native, he attended local schools and graduated with honors from Butte High School in 2000. He went on to earn his engineering degree from Montana State University, where his loyalty to the Bobcats was firmly rooted. In 2006, Ryan began his career with Northwestern Energy, where he worked for nearly 20 years as a Gas Transmission Engineer. He took great pride in his work and truly enjoyed the projects he was part of, but even more so the people. His colleagues were friends, not just coworkers.

In 2015, Ryan married April (Marsh) Egan. Together they built a beautiful life and welcomed two sons: Will in 2018 and Weston in 2020. Living on the 15th hole of the Butte Country Club was the perfect setting for Ryan, allowing him to balance his passion for golf with family life. Ryan deeply loved Butte and the strong community of friends and family that surrounded him. The sense of belonging he felt there made it impossible for him to imagine life anywhere else.

Above all else, Ryan's greatest joy was being a dad. Will and Weston were his pride and purpose. He cherished time spent with his family, fully embracing everything Montana has to offer including camping, golfing, floating and fishing the rivers, hunting, skiing, snowmobiling, riding dirt bikes, exploring the outdoors on his side-by-side, and making lasting memories on family vacations. Christmas was Ryan's favorite holiday, and he made it special every year, most famously by expertly preparing prime rib for Christmas Day for his immediate and extended family. Incredibly intelligent and endlessly capable, Ryan could fix just about anything and was always willing to help when family or friends were in need.

Ryan will be remembered for his sharp wit, ability to quickly read people and situations, and unmatched sense of humor. Without question, he truly enjoyed laughing and seeing the humor in life. You knew things were about to get interesting when Ryan flashed his signature grin. There was always mischief in him. His love for family, his friends, and his home will live on through all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Ryan is survived by his wife, April Egan; his sons, Will and Weston; his parents, Bill and Laurel (Erickson) Egan; his sisters, Haley Egan and Allison Egan; his brother-in-law, Ryan Davis; his nephew, Benny; his beloved cousin, Matt Whalen; and many dear friends, including Dan Fitzpatrick, Rich Peltoma, John LeFever, and his BCC golf buddies, along with countless others whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Catherine Egan, and Len and Mona Erickson.

A Celebration of Life honoring Ryan will be held on June 19th, 2026. Details will be shared at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to Ryan Egan's Memorial Fund. Donations will be used to support future educational expenses for his beloved sons, Weston and Will. Please follow the link to make a donation. https://gofund.me/4e4b25063.

We extend our deepest condolences to Ryan's family on your loss. Although we didn't get to know Ryan, he sounds like he was a great Son, Husband, Father & friend.

April, Will and Weston, although we've never met, our hearts go out to you at the loss of your Husband and Father. I can't imagine your grief, but he'll live on in your memories as the time goes on.

Bill & Laurel, I can't comprehend the loss of your Son, Ryan, at the prime of his life. But as the pain subsides, your memories of Ryan will live on and be echoed through Will, Weston and April who will carry on his love and dreams.

Allison and Haley, although we haven't seen you probably since your high school days, we extend our sorrow for the loss of your brother, Ryan. It is a special bond that siblings have . . . that is now missing in the present, but He'll still be with you through his family who carries on his legacy.

Dan & Barb Olsen and family.
