David Egan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by David W. Barnes Funeral Home on Jan. 25, 2026.
David Lee Egan Sr., 67, entered Heaven's gates on January 23, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and laughter that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Dave was born to Jerome and Julia Egan in Bartlesville, Ok on February 2, 1958. The family made their way to reside in Caney, Ks where Dave was a proud graduate of CVHS class of '77. He was a devoted husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Mary Ann Egan for 47 years. He is survived by his son David Egan and wife Brandee of Caney; his daughter Julie McDermed and husband Justin of Brownwood, Texas; and his treasured grandchildren Rowan McDermed, Brynlee McDermed, Dayton Egan, and Beckett Egan, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his sisters Margaret Peterson and Carol Johnston and husband Danny Johnston along with many adoring nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Jerome "Chunky" Egan, James "Jimmy" Egan, Charlie Egan, and sisters Joyce Carinder, Patricia Holeman, and Helen Williams.

Dave enjoyed karate where he earned his fifth degree black belt. He worked as a precision machinist for many years, retiring in May of 2024. Retirement didn't slow him down-it simply gave him more time to help others. He stayed busy lending a hand to friends and family whenever needed and spent countless hours volunteering with the Caney Fire Department, where he faithfully served as secretary/treasurer. David was always ready to serve the Lord, generously giving his time, abilities, and heart to others.

He was known for his sweet tooth and his talent for sneaking desserts-often with a playful grin and without apology. Dave was ornery, always smiling, and unfailingly kind. He loved his children deeply and was incredibly proud of his grandchildren, never missing a chance to brag about them.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 27, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Tyro Christian Church where he was a longtime member.

A Celebration of Life will follow on Wednesday, January 28, at 10:00 a.m., also at Tyro Christian Church, with a brief graveside service to follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, Kansas.

The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Caney Fire Department; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W Barnes Funeral Home 306 N. Cline Rd. Coffeyville, KS 67337.

David's life was a beautiful example of service, love, and joy. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his goofy sense of humor, and the many lives he touched simply by showing up and caring.
