Denise M. (Rioux) Egan passed away on Monday January 12th, surrounded by her family. Born in Springfield, MA on September 4, 1940, she was the beloved daughter of the late George and Rita (Lussier) Rioux. She was a Graduate of Cathedral High School class of 1958.
As a young woman, Denise worked at New England Telephone before starting a family in 1961. She also worked at Heritage Hall Nursing Home as a Nurse's aide and at Chez Josef in the Banquet Hall, but her true love was being a mother, grandmother and housewife.
During her free time, she enjoyed parades, word puzzles, scrabble & shows at the Majestic Theatre. She loved Elvis Presley and displayed many pictures around her home as well as blankets and other memorabilia. She also enjoyed Country Music (Glen Campbell, Kenny Rodgers, Loretta Lynn and most recently Blake Shelton). Denise would spend time going to tag sales and cutting coupons, but her greatest love was being around her family. She would host Birthdays and Holidays and always made everyone feel welcome.
Denise was predeceased by a sister Colette Smith of Glen Falls, NY in 2017 and by her granddaughter Brooke Elizabeth Egan of Agawam in 2003.
Denise leaves behind and will be deeply missed by her husband of 65 years, William J Egan, Jr, her children, Suzanne Summers (Mark) of Chicopee, MA, William J Egan III (Cindy) of Agawam, James P. Egan of Agawam and Michael S. Egan (Ashley, mother of their children) of Suffield, CT.
She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Shawn Summers (Brianne) of Wilbraham, MA David Summer (Maria) of Feeding Hills, MA, Brett Summers (Christine) of Ellington, CT. Kerri Costa (Steven) of Feeding Hills, Zachary Egan of Springfield, William Egan IV of Agawam Michael Egan and Molly Egan of Suffield, CT. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, Brody, Major and Blare Summers, Liana, Ronan, Vienna Summers, Amelia and Lucy Summers and Crew Costa.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Judith and Robert Mills of Springfield, MA and brother-in-law Stephen Smith of Hudson Falls, NY.
A public visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 20th at the Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation at 985 Main Street in Agawam from 4-7pm. A funeral will be held the following day, Wednesday, January 21st, 9AM at the funeral home, with Mass at 10AM in St John's Evangelist Church, 833 Main St, Agawam; and burial will follow in Agawam Center Cemetery, Agawam, MA.
