Karen Egan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McNearney - Schmidt Funeral and Cremation on Feb. 6, 2026.
Karen Rene (Stylski) Egan, of Shakopee, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at the age of 65. After a long and courageous battle with COPD, severe asthma, and MCAS, she was surrounded by love, with her devoted husband at her side.

Karen was born on December 27, 1960, at St. Barnabas Hospital in Minneapolis to Stanley and Elaine (Gallagher) Stylski. She was raised in Bloomington and later moved to Burnsville, where she met the love of her life, Michael Egan, from the neighboring town of Savage. After several years of dating, they were married on June 9, 1979, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savage, Minnesota. In 2025, they joyfully celebrated 46 years of marriage and 50 years of love and commitment to one another. Their love was the foundation upon which Karen built her life.

After graduating from Burnsville Senior High School, Karen began her professional career at Twin City Federal as a bank teller. Known for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and exceptional customer service, she advanced quickly through the company. By the age of 24, she had become the Operations Supervisor of the Burnsville office, making her the youngest operations supervisor in the company.

Following the birth of their second child, Karen chose to step away from the corporate world to focus on what mattered most to her, being a loving and present mother and wife. She transitioned to becoming a homemaker the same way she did everything else, with enthusiasm and joy. In 1988, Karen and Mike embarked on a new chapter together by starting their own business, M&K Electric, Inc. The name reflected their inseparable bond, incorporating both of their names. It was always understood that there was no Mike without Karen, and no Karen without Mike. Karen remained Mike's motivation for providing for their growing family and her love for Mike was his strength.

Caring for her family was Karen's true passion, and she expressed that love most often through cooking. An incredible cook and baker, she spent countless afternoons planning and preparing meals filled with flavor and affection. No one ever left her home hungry or without plenty of snacks for later. As her children grew, she passed along her treasured recipes and her deep belief that food was a way to care and show devotion for others. She often said that love was the not-so-secret ingredient in every dish, and without it, nothing would taste quite right. Holidays were especially meaningful, spent baking cookies and treats with her grandchildren, for whom her love was endless.

Karen found joy in many hobbies, including growing flowers and houseplants, gardening with Mike, and canning the fruits of their labor together. She canned tomatoes, made sauces and salsa, preserved strawberry jam, and froze apple pie filling for the winter months. Her favorite, however, was making her spicy Polish dill pickles.

Above all, Karen was a kind, caring, empathetic, and exceedingly generous soul who never turned away anyone, or anything, in need. Whether it was an abandoned or abused animal, or a friend or family member going through a difficult time, Karen was always there. Her compassion was a reflection of her deep faith and her devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary and to Jesus

Christ and His Sacred Heart. Even when she was no longer physically able to attend Mass, Karen remained spiritually connected through EWTN, finding comfort and inspiration in Catholic programming, Masses, Rosaries, Litanies, and Novenas. She faithfully offered up her suffering to the Blessed Mother and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Elaine (Gallagher) Stylski; her grandmother, Mildred Gallagher; her father-in-law, Russell Egan; her brother-in-law, Steve Bunnell; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were waiting to welcome her home in Heaven.

She is survived by her loving husband, Michael Egan; her sons, Matthew (Angela) Egan, Mark Egan, and Paul Egan; her daughter, Mary Egan (partner Spencer Cain); and her cherished grandchildren, Melissa, Isabel, Matthew, and Michael Egan. She is also survived by her siblings, Michael Stylski, Lori (Stylski) Andrews, and Mary (Stylski) Bunnell; her mother-in-law, Ila (Beckrich) Egan; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Karen will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

Visitation Monday, February 23, 2026, from 4-8 PM, at McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation, 1220 3rd Ave. East, Shakopee; Rosary Prayers will begin at 7:45 PM. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 10-11 AM, at The Parish of Saints Joachim and Anne (St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church) 15850 Marystown Road, Shakopee, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Interment St. Mary's of Marystown Catholic Cemetery.
