William Joseph Egan of Simsbury, Connecticut (formerly of Canton, CT and Chicago, IL) passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Bill graduated from St. Phillips High School in Chicago in 1953 and from Loyola University Chicago in 1957. After his sophomore year at Loyola he enrolled in the Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Class (PLC) and spent the next two summers at 6-week training programs in Quantico, Virginia. Upon graduation from Loyola in 1957, he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Marine Corps and served on active duty until joining the Marine Corps Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. Bill worked at the Travelers Insurance Company after leaving active duty, initially working in the Chicago office before transferring to the home office in Hartford where he worked for decades before retiring. After a brief retirement, Bill worked for the State of Connecticut, Department of Insurance before retiring for good.

Bill married Eileen (Hogan) Egan in 1963 and remained married until her death in 1993. Bill then married Lee (Brown) Egan in 1999 and remained her devoted husband until his death. Bill leaves behind two children, his son, William John Egan of Simsbury, CT (Robin), and their daughters Molly and Caroline, and his daughter, Erin (Egan) Byrne of Columbus, OH, and her children Hannah and Lilly. He is also survived by his current wife Lee (Brown) Egan and her children Geoff Graham (Cindy) and their children Jordan, Ali and Kelsey (Jack) and their daughter Layla, and Mark Graham (Andrea) and their children Hannah, Mason and Chase.

Upon moving to Canton, CT in 1973, Bill became a member of St. Patrick's Parish, in Canton/Collinsville, CT and served on the Parish Council and also gave his time unofficially in many other ways to the church and community. Bill also attended Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Simsbury, CT which became his primary church when he and Lee moved from Canton to Simsbury in 2021. Bill attended Mass almost every day of his life, including at St. Patrick's & St. Anthony's Parish in Hartford for weekday mornings.

Bill was a loving and devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a fun-loving grandfather who cared for and took care of his family with dedication and love his entire life. He also had many friends and colleagues who will miss him very much, and will always have fond memories of his part in their lives.

His family will receive friends on Friday, February 20, 4-7 p.m., at the Carmon Funeral Home and Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon.
