Ernest Guignon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center on Feb. 11, 2026.
Ernest Fitch Guignon, 90, of Canton, beloved husband of Anne L. (Krepps) Guignon, passed away with loving family by his side on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Ernie was born February 15, 1935, in Corry, PA.

Ernie was raised in Corry and graduated from Corry High School in 1953. He continued his education at Washington & Jefferson College (BA), Syracuse University (MS) and the University of Connecticut (PhD.)

Ernie loved learning...and teaching. He came to Connecticut to teach Biology at CCSC (now CCSU) and through the years taught courses at UConn, Trinity, and the Hartford Graduate Center.

He was a man of varied skills and interests, something he attributed to his youth spent in the Guignon Hardware store where he learned tinning, plumbing, roofing and so much more. Using a combination of his practical and academic skills, he created the Clinical Engineering department for UConn Health's original John Dempsey Hospital and served as the Clinical Engineer for 12 years. During this time Ernie taught and mentored many students through the Hartford Graduate Center's Clinical Engineering Internship program. He then joined Ciencia, a small scientific research company developing cutting-edge scientific instruments for medical diagnostics. Never officially "retiring," Ernie stayed connected to Ciencia to the end, critiquing new instruments brought to his home for assessment.

During his non-working hours, Ernie played tennis well into his eighties. As they aged, the tennis group stayed close, tennis matches turning into regular dining events. He also derived great pleasure from Canton Public Library's Science Book Club where he met with and enjoyed like-minded readers. At his passing, he was almost finished with February's book selection.

Ernie is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Anne Guignon of Canton, CT; daughter, Shirah L. Rosenek (Virginia) of Williston, FL; grandchildren, Benjamin, Julia, Heidi, Nathaniel, Rosalie and Gaelan as well as several great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Jorja (Steve) and Patrice (Bob). He was predeceased by both parents, Joseph and Mabel "Ida" Guignon; son, Joseph A. Guignon; daughter, Heather S. Bosworth and granddaughter, Jillian Bosworth.

Special thanks to good friends: Arturo, Ernie, and Willy; his caregiver Ann Marie and nurse, Rose.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, 11:00AM, at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd, Avon, CT 06001. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
