Robert (Bob) Walter Alexis, 89, of Stuart, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026.
Born in Falconer, New York, to Ruth and Walter Alexis, Bob was a lifelong learner and dedicated engineer. He earned his degree in Chemical Engineering from Syracuse University and furthered his professional education at NYU’s Stern School of Business. Though he began his career at the Linde division of Union Carbide, Bob found his true professional calling at Chemical Design, Inc. in Lockport, NY. As an expert in Adsorption Systems, he served as Vice President for most of his career. The firm’s smaller size allowed Bob to thrive in many roles—from strategy and business development to overseeing the design and start-up of the very plants he engineered. Following his retirement, he continued to lead as a principal for AFPS.
Bob’s happiest moments were spent on the water. He learned to fish for bass and muskies as a child on Chautauqua Lake and later sought the challenge of salmon in Lake Ontario and marlin in Panama. His leadership extended to the water as well; he served as a Commander for the Western New York chapter of the United States Power Squadrons, where he took great pride in earning his navigation certificate.
Bob was deeply committed to his community, serving on the board of the Wyndham Lawn Home for Children, as President of the Lockport Town and Country Club, and as a mentor of small businesses through SCORE. He was also a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where he sponsored and supported many on their journey of recovery. Known for his dry wit and sharp sense of humor, Bob maintained his ability to make those around him laugh even throughout his final battle with Alzheimer’s.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Barbara; his daughters, Kim Alexis (Jeff) Schwartz and Rhonda (John) Dirvin —of whom he and Barbara were incredibly proud, often sharing stories of Kim’s career as a celebrated supermodel and Rhonda’s career as an engineer. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Jamie Stockton, Bobby Stockton, Noah (Meaghan) Duguay, Alexis (David) Fuller, and Eric (Amanda) Dirvin; and great-grandchildren Ranger Duguay and Jackson Fuller.
Preceding Bob in death are his parents; his sister Ruth Ann Alexis Mole; and his daughter, Kristen Nicole Alexis (1975).
