Eunice Cawiezell Obituary

Eunice Cawiezell

April 14, 1925 - August 31, 2025

Eunice H. Cawiezell, age 100, of Pleasant Prairie, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Wilton Retirement Community. A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 8, 2025, at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Burial will take place in Parr Cemetery, rural Muscatine County. Memorials may be made to the Blue Grass American Legion Auxiliary. Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Eunice was born on April 14, 1925, the daughter of George and Mabel (Teitsch) Altmann. She married Donald Cawiezell on November 27, 1955, in Pleasant Prairie, Iowa. Don passed away on January 10, 2019.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Eunice dedicated her life to caring for her family and working alongside her husband, Don, on their family farm, where she took great pride in the many dairy awards they earned. Her strong work ethic and gentle spirit were the foundation of a long and meaningful life. Eunice was active in her community as a member of the Durant Unity Club, Durant Senior Citizens, and the Blue Grass American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a former member of Pleasant Prairie Presbyterian Church.

A gifted seamstress, Eunice sewed hundreds of lap blankets for the Iowa City V.A., generously giving her time and talents. She was also an avid quilter, making quilts for her grandchildren and family, each one stitched with love. Eunice enjoyed tending to her garden, canning the harvest, and found joy in playing cards, especially 500, as well as Dominoes and Rummikub. Family was at the center of her life, and she especially treasured holidays together. She was lovingly known for her sour green beans, peanut butter cookies, and her pies.

Eunice will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, William (Jill) Cawiezell of New Era, Robert (Jill) Cawiezell of Pleasant Prairie and John (Samantha Solomon) Cawiezell of Muscatine; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Bernice Lobdell of Wilton; a sister-in-law, Katie Altmann of Houston, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; four sisters, Blanche Secrist, Elizabeth Geurink, Irma Rushing and Anna Snyder; and two brothers, Harvey and Kenneth Altmann.

I will miss you Aunt Eunice. I can still remember the Christmas's past when we were out on your farm, and all the kitties you had. Must have been why I have always had cats. You always asked in Christmas cards about my cats too. I miss getting those cards as you always kept me informed what was going on with the family that you loved so much. You were one of the Best. Please give my Mom a big hug for me. I know you two will have lots to talk about. This is not "Good-bye", but more like "See you later". Heaven has truly gained an "Angel"
