George Ferris
September 27, 1940 - June 25, 2024
MUSCATINE, IA - George Ferris passed away, at the age of 83, on June 25, 2024. He was born in the Chicago (South Side), September 27, 1940, to Marie and Michael Ferris of Mansouri, Lebanon. After graduating from Morgan Park Military Academy in Chicago, he attended Iowa Wesleyan University in Mount Pleasant, IA, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and graduated with a BA in Accounting.
George was married his wife Dolores, of 57 years, on July 23, 1966. They had two children Julie Ritz of Denver, CO, and George Ferris of Greer, SC.
He enjoyed a 48-year career in accounting, working in many large multinational corporations, the last being HNI in Muscatine, IA. He was also one of founders of Educational Assistance Ltd (EAL), a nonprofit scholarship program, which exchanged donated materials from corporations to colleges and universities for scholarships enabling over 10,000 students to attain higher education.
George was a lifelong Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeye fan who lived for the beginning of football season every year. Go Bears! Go Hawks! He lived by the mantra "If it isn't fattening, it isn't good," and he never met a desert he didn't like.
He is preceded in death his parents, his brother Mike Ferris and cousin Toufic Stephan, who was as close as a bother.
George is survived by his wife Dolores, their children Julie (Jim) and George, their grandchildren Dutch, Noah, Adelle and Maya. He's also survived by his sister-in-law, Eleanor Ferris and niece and nephew, Emil Ferris and Michael Ferris (Rosemarie). In addition, he will be greatly missed by his cousins, the Stephan family of Mansouri, Lebanon, who he loved to visit.
A Celebration of Life/Open House will be held on Friday, August 2, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., the Merrill Hotel Muscatine, IA.
Interment in Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL.
