CONESVILLE, IA - Larry Eugene Fitchner, 78, of Conesville, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 14, 2024. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the Columbus Junction American Legion, where military honors will be accorded at 1:00 PM. Interment will be held at the Conesville Cemetery at a later date. Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Service of Columbus Junction is caring for the family. Memorials may be directed to the Conesville Fire Department in memory of Larry. Online condolences may be left at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.
Larry was born November 3, 1945 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Eugene and Mildred (Rohde) Fitchner. He graduated from Columbus Community High School. Larry was a decorated Navy Veteran, receiving a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medical, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Navy Commendation Medal after his honorable service during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Terri Howell on December 4, 1976 in Columbus Junction.
Larry worked as cable splicer for Windstream for many years. He was a member of the Conesville Fire Department for over 30 years and member of the American Legion and Grace United Community Church. He was the co-owner of Cedar Valley Hunting Club. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an avid match safe collector and online shopper.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Terri Fitchner of Conesville; son, Timothy Fitchner of Conesville; daughter, Laura (Dustin) Juhl of Conesville; grandchildren: Dylan (Esme) Perez, Dyson Juhl and Ariana Juhl; great-grand puppies: Luka, Winter and Roxie; and brother-in-law, Tim Panther of Muscatine.
He was preceded in death by parents and his sister, Nancy Panther.
