Betty Macapulay Obituary

Betty Bernice (Gaulke) Macapulay, 88, of Bellingham, WA, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025. She was born to Roy and Bernice Gaulke in Arlington, WA on May 17, 1936. She graduated from Bellingham High School in 1954 and went on to attend the Salvation Army Training College, graduating in 1956. She was then assigned to the Honolulu Kauluwela Corps, where she met her future husband, Albert Macapulay. Betty and Albert were united in marriage on March 16, 1957, in Honolulu, Hawaii and later moved to Bellingham, WA in 1963. Their love and partnership spanned many years, and together they raised two daughters, Michele and Melissa. Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Betty is survived by her daughters, Michele (Richard) VanSchaick and Melissa (Patrick) Wolken; her granddaughters, Cynthia (Quentin) Gant, Christina (Peter) Treiber, and Ashley VanSchaick, her grandson, Michael (Rheanna) VanSchaick; and her great-grandsons, Gunner Gant, Miller Treiber, and Meyer Treiber. She is also survived by 3 nieces and 4 nephews, as well as many dear friends. She was predeceased by her father, Roy Gaulke; her mother, Bernice Gaulke; and her loving husband, Albert Macapulay, who passed away on May 3, 2014. In her passing, Betty will be remembered most for her devotion to her family and her deep faith. A private graveside service was held on April 17, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Salvation Army, 2912 Northwest Ave, Bellingham, WA 98225. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
