Daniel James Short

Daniel James Short, 36, a loving Christian from Bellingham, WA, died unexpectedly from a heart attack and was found on June 11th at his apartment. He was born in Bellingham on May 16, 1989, to his mom Linda (Elsner) Short and dad Don Short. Daniel graduated from Bellingham High School in 2007, where he enjoyed choir with his mom, drama class, video production, and creative writing. He then earned his Associates degree in Communications from Whatcom Community College. For many years he worked as a "shakerboarder" for Little Caesars pizza on Lakeway and later enjoyed work supporting kids' creativity as a Janitor at BAAY (Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth). Daniel was known for his kind heart and for wanting everyone to experience Christ's unconditional love. He had little tolerance for those who hated or harmed others and wanted the marginalized to know that they were welcome with him. He was also known for his fantastic memory and encyclopedic knowledge regarding the many topics that interested him, including baseball, music, video games, voice actors, and Godzilla. Daniel's passing comes as a shock to his family, friends, and loved ones. Despite the many challenges he faced, Daniel knew that he was loved and cared for by God and those close to him, and his love for them was apparent in return. He lived a love-filled life and still had so much ahead of him. He was taken far too soon. He is survived by his mom, Linda Short, his dad and step-mom, Don and Anna Short, his older brother Andrew (Cortney) Short, and nephew Jonah, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, June 21st at Bellingham First Congregational Church, located at 2401 Cornwall Ave, Bellingham. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring his allyship to LGBTQI causes through a donation to the Bellingham Queer Collective or another LGBTQI-friendly organization.
