Glenn Unfreid Obituary

Glenn Richard Unfreid, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away on September 15, 2025, at the age of 94. Glenn was born in Maywood, California, on June 10, 1931, to John and Mildred Unfried, the youngest of three children and their only son. After his mother passed away when he was only 17 months old, Glenn was raised by his grandparents, aunts, and uncles, who provided him with a loving and stable home. His grandparents taught him in the ways of God and faithfully brought him to their German-speaking Methodist church. As a young teen, Glenn chose to put his trust in Jesus, and his faith was of the utmost importance to him throughout his life. In the early 1950s, Glenn began attending Biola Bible College in Los Angeles, California. His love for music grew while he was a student. He had a beautiful tenor voice and received tuition assistance in exchange for singing each week on the Biola Hour, a radio program hosted by the college. While riding on the bus to a school-sponsored event, he was captivated by a beautiful student sitting in front of him and quickly determined she was "the one." On August 27, 1955, after a three-month whirlwind courtship, Glenn married Tamara Kushnerov, the love of his life. They shared nearly 63 years together in marriage before her passing in 2018. Glenn held many varied interests over the years that he poured himself into-whether it was singing in church choirs, serving with the Gideons ministry in Bible distribution, making beautiful heirloom pieces with his woodworking skills, exploring his passion for photography, or enjoying the outdoors through hunting, fishing, and camping-he took great enjoyment in pursuing these passions, many which he shared with Tamara. He was also well known for his quick wit, sense of humor, hearty laughter, and ready smile. Family was a valued treasure to Glenn, and he loved encouraging each of his kids in their individual interests. Taking his family to church with him each week was both a priority and a joy. Glenn worked diligently to create a lasting legacy for generations to come. Glenn is survived by his children Deborah (Gary) Roberts of Lynden, WA, Steven (Katheryn) Unfreid of Palmer, AK, Lorraine (Gabriel) Varela of Fort Worth, TX, and Timothy (Thresa) Unfreid of Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his daughter Sharon and son John, his grandson Silas, his parents, and his sisters Eleanor, Betty, Gloria, and Carole. A celebration of Glenn's life and faith will be held on Friday, September 26th, at 2:00pm, at North County Christ the King church in Lynden, WA. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Gideons International as it was a ministry dear to Glenns heart. The family is comforted by the words of John 14:2–3: "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." We rest in the assurance that Glenn is now in the presence of the Lord, surrounded by His perfect peace and joy. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
