Virginia Lowe Obituary

Virginia Ann Lowe, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on February 25, 2025, at the age of 82. She was born on February 26, 1942, in Sumas, Washington, and spent her early years on the family farm in Nooksack, Washington, before moving to various places that shaped her life. Virginia's journey of love and devotion began with her marriage to Jerry Dewayne Lowe on August 12, 1967, in Nooksack, Washington. They shared 43 wonderful years together until Jerry's passing on July 31, 2011. Their bond remains cherished in the hearts of their family and friends. Virginia graduated from Western Washington University, earning a BA in Education with a major in Home Economics and a minor in English. She spent five years as a Home Economics teacher at Olympic Junior High in Auburn, before choosing to stay at home and care for her children. Together with Jerry, she moved to Edmonds, Washington, where they opened Lynnwood Furniture in 1971, later relocating to Bellingham in 1985 to take over Van's Furniture. Virginia remained active in both her family and community, working as a bookkeeper, supporting various charitable organizations such as Seattle Children's Hospital, and participating in church life. Throughout her life, Virginia was a committed volunteer and an avid supporter of her children's and grandchildren's activities. She was deeply involved in the Edmonds United Methodist Church, volunteering in the Thrift Store, teaching Sunday School, and other roles to assist with church services. Her role as a grandmother brought her immense joy, she enjoyed watching her grandkids sporting events, choir concerts and other activities. Virginia was known for her boundless generosity, kindness, and hospitality. She was always ready to open her home for family gatherings, birthdays, and holidays, making every event feel special. Her favorite memories included trips in the motorhome, weekends at the Fish Lake cabin, family vacations to Disneyland, Mexico and Costa Rica. Her family will forever cherish her love for hosting, and the traditions she created. She loved spending time with her loved ones, reading, and playing games like Aggravation and Mah Jongg. Virginia's warm smile and caring nature will be remembered by everyone who knew her. She embodied kindness, love, and joy, and was truly a role model for all. As one family friend said, Virginia and Jerry's home on Lake Whatcom was our happy place. Virginia is survived by her son Michael Lowe and his children Arielle (Sam) and Dylan; her daughter Christina LaBelle and her husband David, and their children Megan and Maya; her siblings Larry Brown and Bob Brown (Renea); her brother-in-law Chuck Anderson, sister-in-law Judy Brown; her mother-in-law, Nixie VanSelus, sister-in-law Kandy Carlson (Rick), and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Lowe, her parents Vernon and Iola Brown, her sister Arlene Anderson, her father-in-law Cyril VanSelus, her brother-in-law Randy VanSelus, her brother Darrel Brown, and her sister-in-law Mary Ann Brown. A service in honor of Virginia's life will be held on Friday, March 21, at 1:00 PM at the Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers St, Edmonds, WA 98020. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Edmonds United Methodist Church or the Edmonds Food Bank. Virginia's legacy of love, laughter, and selflessness will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.

Dear Tina and Mike. Although unfortunately, I can't make it to your mom's memorial service, please know that she holds a special place in my heart and the hearts of my boys. From the first time we met her at the Lake Whatcom home, she made us feel welcome. The accommodations in the motor home were very special and my boys have fond memories of it and the days spent on the lake jet skiing. From there to many Thanksgivings together, to the rental cabins at Fish Lake before the cabin was built to wonderful times meeting up snowmobiling, to New Year's Eve celebrations with some wonderful dessert your mom made with either Megan or Maya, to various games at the giant dining room table (Aggravation!) to the warmth and hugs shared whenever we were there...your mom's graciousness and kindness were always given and felt by us. We will miss her.
We offer these thoughts to say Virginia will always be remembered by us and she'll be in our hearts. Much love to you both and to the rest of your loved ones. Janet, Christofer, Samantha and Nicholas
