George Stevenson Obituary

George K. Stevenson, 89 formerly of Carrollton, passed away in Greenwood, Indiana on June 20th after a lengthy illness. He was born January 28, 1933, in Dobbs Ferry, New York to the late Howard A. and Mildred (Frye) Stevenson.
He is survived by four children, Linda (John) Phillips of Pittsboro, Indiana, David (Jeanne) Stevenson of Carrollton, Kentucky, Cindy Stevenson of Burlington, New Jersey, and Paul (Tammy) Stevenson of Paducah, Kentucky. George is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. George was preceded in death by three siblings, Phyliss Uyeno of Portchester, New York, Howard, Jr. (Steve) Stevenson of Ithaca, New York, and Richard (Duke) Stevenson of Groton, New York. There are numerous nieces and nephews surviving as well.
George was one of the original founders of the Carroll County Ambulance Service and was among the first Kentucky Certified EMT Instructor Trainers. He was also Carroll County's Citizen of the year.
George grew up in Brooktendale, New York and after high school George entered the United States Navy where he served for four years. George was a 1968 graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where he received a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources. Upon graduation he was hired by the Dow Corning Corporation and the family moved to Midland, Michigan. In 1969 he was transferred to the Dow Corning Plant in Carrollton, Kentucky where he served 10 years as the Personnel Manager. In 1979 George was transferred back to Midland, Michigan. George retired from Dow Corning in 1998 and lived in Midland, Michigan until moving to Greenwood, Indiana in 2020.
A memorial service will be planned on a later date.
