Sylvia Hewitt Obituary

Mrs. Sylvia Jean "Mimi" Beckham Hewitt, age 79, of Madison, Indiana, formerly of Carrollton entered this life on April 9, 1943 in Owenton, Kentucky. She was the loving daughter of the late Hawk and Ila Boone Beckham. She was raised in Owenton and attended school there.
She was united in marriage to Eugene Manley and this union of 32 years was blessed with children, Debbie, Doug and Denise. She moved from Owenton to Sanders and lived there for many years. Later in life she moved to Carrollton and was employed for over 20 years with the Carroll County Board of Education as a bus driver and manager of the high school cafeteria. On November 3, 2012 she was united in marriage to Gary Wayne Hewitt in Nebraska, Indiana. This union of nearly ten years blended two families together. She had last worked for Abercrombie Carpets part-time retiring in May 2022. She was a long time member of Sanders Baptist Church and after her marriage to Gary she became a member of the North Madison Baptist Church. Sylvia loved cooking, flowers, and dancing. She enjoyed being a devoted Mimi and Mamaw and greatly enjoyed her great grandchildren. Sylvia died on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at 1:11 p.m. at the Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana.
Sylvia will be missed by her loving husband of nearly ten years, Gary Wayne Hewitt of Madison, Indiana; her loving daughter, Denise Abercrombie and her husband, Bobby of Sanders, Kentucky; her step sons, Darryl Hewitt and his wife, Shana of Madison, Indiana, Mike Hewitt and his wife, Heather of Indianapolis, Indiana; her step daughter, Elizabeth Broadus and her husband, Steve of Madison, Indiana; her grandchildren, Noah Abercrombie (Brecken), Bobbi Renee Stewart (Jordan), Terra Scruggs, Cassie Manley, Ethan Manley (Lauren); her great grandchildren, Bryce Stewart, Adin Willinger, William Stewart, Jori Stewart, Gavin Ball, Lyric Scruggs, Nehemiah Scruggs, Kati Stewart, Gage Stone, Landon James, Kingston Scruggs; her step grandchildren, Noah Hewitt, Eric Hewitt, Presley Hewitt, Duncan Hewitt, Abbi Broadus, Becca Pearson, and Deavin Broadus; her step great grandchildren, Zach Hewitt and Cash Broadus; her brother, Jake Beckham (Lori) of Dry Ridge, Kentucky; her sisters, Linda Humble and her husband, Eddie of Carrollton, Kentucky, Rita Crawford and her husband, Doug of Sanders, Kentucky; her sister in law, Phyllis Bright and her husband, Carl of Columbus, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Hawk Beckham; her mother, Ila Boone Beckham; her daughter, Debbie Tolbert, died May 6, 1981; her son, Doug Manley, died December 13, 2008; and her granddaughter, Tasha Tolbert, died August 17, 1981.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at 7 p.m., by Pastor David Scaggs at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow at a later date in the Owenton Cemetery in Owenton, Kentucky.
