Albert Kovacs Obituary
Rev. Albert W. Kovacs, 86, of Ligonier, died Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Excela Latrobe Hospital. He was born August 19, 1929 in Woodbridge, NJ, a son of the late Albert and Elizabeth Szabad Kovacs. Albert was licensed for Christian Ministry by the Pittsburgh Synod in 1954. He obtained his BS in Divinity and M.in Divinity from Lancaster Theological Seminary. He served many churches during his career which spanned 62 years, from 1954 to present. In recent years he was the General Secretary of the Calvin Synod for two terms and chairman of the Church and Ministry Committee for six years. He was an active member of the Ligonier Valley Ministerial Association.
Rev. Kovacs is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 62 years, Theresa Mary Torok Kovacs, two sons, John Kovacs of Reading and Dr. James (Diana) Kovacs of Voorhees, NJ, a daughter, Jean Kovacs of White Bear Lake, MN, four granddaughters, Christina and Caroline Kovacs, Erin Watson and Holly (Wes) Adams, two great-grandchildren, Esa Huggins-Watson and Hazel Adams, and a sister, Marguerite Gross of Woodbridge, NJ. "My grace is sufficient for thee"
A service to celebrate the life of Rev. Kovacs will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11:00AM at the Chapel of the Bethlen Home, Kalassay Drive, Ligonier.

I am greatly saddened by the passing of a truly great friend, the Rev. Albert Kovacs, whom I have known since our early youth at the John Calvin Hungarian Reformed Church in Perth Amboy, NJ. Among many other important accomplishments and treasured memories, he was most instrumental in placing the archival material of my (late) father, the Rev. Anthony Szabo, in the Bethlen Museum and Archives for which I am grateful more than words can say. Another very treasured memory is the part Rev. Kovacs played in connecting me to my late husband whom I re-met at our 60th High School Reunion in Perth Amboy. An inspiring story !!
I send my sincere and heartfelt sympathy to his wife, Theresa and their family.

Rev Al Kovacs supported me and my wife Marj in the early to mid 90's as I was seeking ordination in the UCC. I was ordained in the Reformed Christian faith of the Calvin Synod in Nov. 95 and he led the service for me in St. Louis, MO. I will always remember you for your faith, convictions and joy. May the Lord Jesus bless all in your family
