Alvin (Al) Beckerman

AGE: 82 • Bedminster

Alvin (Al) Beckerman, 82, passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2011. Al was born in Elizabeth, NJ and formerly of Bernardsville and Livingston before moving to Bedminster. He was founder of The Beckerman Group, an advertising and marketing agency in Bernardsville, and was its president for 25 years. As part of the agency, whose clients were prominent New Jersey corporations, he conceived of and ran The Visual/Verbal Workshop. Al was also a distinguished artist who had taught at The Pratt Institute, Kean College, and had several one-man gallery shows in the tri-state area. Al was a Korean War veteran who served from 1951-53.

He is survived by his wife, Ilene, their five children, Isabelle Edelman, Lillie Bryen, Michael Beckerman, Joe Beckerman, and Julie Levine, a sister, Ann Hyman and ten grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1pm Wednesday at Temple Sholom Cemetery, Chimney Rock Rd, Bridgewater. Arrangements are by the Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave., Somerville.
