Andrew "Andy" Papa

AGE: 87 • Whiting

Andrew "Andy" Papa, 87, of Whiting, passed away at Community Medical Center, Toms River, on May 29, 2015. Born in Pittston, Pa, he was formerly of Paterson, Wayne, West Milford & Clifton before moving to Whiting 22 years ago. He worked for the Postal Service for 26 years retiring as Postmaster of the Bernardsville Post Office in 1983and served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Tidewater AD-31 where he served as plank owner.

Andrew was the President of the Trustees of the Residents Club, member of the Italian American Club & life member of the Knights of Columbus, all of Whiting; Life member of the American Legion Post 174; started Bingo in Village 6 in Whiting; Passaic County Commander of the American Legion; member of NARFE, Lakehurst #1619 and initiated the building for the American Legion as well getting the street name changed and obtaining a liquor license for the club.

He was predeceased by his parents Michael & Louise (Angony) Papa, his brother Vincent Papa & sister in law Florence & sister Antoinette Rendini. Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Philomena (nee Iannelli); his children and spouses, Andrea & James Faraci, Cranbury; Michele & Alan Schwiederek, Mason OH & Andrew Jr & Carrie Papa, LaGrange, KY; his brother & sister in law, Frank & Cathy Rendini, Whiting & his grandchildren, Laura & Alex Pettit, Johanna, James, Andrew, Lisa & Kayley.

Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 at the Family Owned Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals, 66 Lacey Rd, Whiting. Funeral mass will be on Tuesday at 9am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton RC Church, Whiting. Entombment will follow at Whiting Memorial Park, Whiting.
