Anna Manioudakis of Somerset has been Carried away from this life to the Great Beyond. Anna was seventy-six years old. For sixteen months she waged a ferocious battle against brain cancer. "Ferocious" is too pale, too shallow and too small of a word to describe Anna's determination to live. She finally capitulated to this dreaded disease and surrendered her soul to the Great Architect of the universe on Friday, March 15, 2013.

Anna was born in Camden, NJ, on April 5, 1936, the daughter of the late George and Martha Moularakis (Miller). Prior to getting married, Anna worked in the accounting department of Campbell Soup Company in Camden. She also taught the accordion at Klayman's Music Studio in Woodbury. In 1959, she married "the love of her life," Emanuel (Manny) Manioudakis. Together, they had two sons, Nicholas and George. Prior to settling down in Somerset, they lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, and Massachusetts.

Anna was a communicant of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Piscataway where she sang in the choir for over fifty years: She also was a member of the Eastern Federation of Greek Orthodox Choirs. She just loved singing in the choir and praising the Almighty. In addition, Anna was a member of the Daughters of Penelope, the ladies auxiliary of the American Hellenic Educational and Progressive Association (AHEPA), where she served as president in 2003 and 2004. She was honored in 2010 by being named "Penelope of the Year" of District 5 which includes the states of New Jersey and Delaware. She was also a long time member of the Philoptohos Society, the philanthropic body of the church.

Anna is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Manny, her sons Nicholas of Bayside, NY, and George and his wife, Vana, of Somerset, and four grandchildren: Manoli, Tracy, Anna, Dimitri. In addition, she leaves behind her siblings: Bill, Cutchie, Theodore and Nick, all of South Jersey. Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Sunday at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 18, 2013 beginning at 10:30am at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Road, Piscataway. Interment will follow at Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. George Memorial Fund or to the Daughters of Penelope Scholarship Fund, 1101 River Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854.
