Barbara Cohen, 85, of Highland Park, NJ, died Thursday, June 23, 2016 at her residence with family by her side. Born in New York City, Mrs. Cohen grew up in the city and resided in East Brunswick for five years before moving to Highland Park in 1963. She also summered on Long Beach Island, NJ and wintered in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Mrs. Cohen was a 1950 graduate of Hunter College with a BA Degree in Psychology. She was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority.

She was dedicated to her family and to her community. Mrs. Cohen was a Board member of the Highland Park Conservative Temple-Congregation Anshe Emeth for many years, as well as holding a membership in the Jewish Community Center of Long Beach Island. She served both temples in multiple leadership capacities. She was a longtime member and supporter of the Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey and National Council of Jewish Women, where she held many leadership positions and served as District President for several terms.

Besides loving to spend time with her family, especially her four grandchildren, Mrs. Cohen enjoyed reading, politics, crossword puzzles, traveling, and going to the theatre.

Daughter of the late Jacob and Bee (Smolen) Cohen,she was also predeceased by her brother, Dr. Jay Maxwell. Surviving are her beloved husband of 65 years, Arthur, whom see met on a blind date, her daughter, Nancy S Cohen, of NYC, her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Rhonda Cohen, of Philadelphia, PA and Sandy Cohen and Mary Weiner, of NYC, and her grandsons, Ben, Josh, Jacob, and Nathaniel Cohen.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 am on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the Highland Park Conservative Temple-Congregation Anshe Emeth, 201 South Third Avenue, Highland Park, NJ. Interment to follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ. Shiva will commence following interment Sunday at the Cohen residence at 44 North 8th Avenue in Highland Park and will continue through Friday morning.
