Claire McHale Obituary
AGE: 86 • Barnegat Light, NJ
Claire McHale (nee Rowbottom). Born on March 28th, 1929, died on July 12th, 2015. A long time resident of Barnegat Light, NJ. Claire was born in Hammonton, NJ and resided in Moorestown, NJ, before moving to Barnegat Light in 1964. She was a Registered Nurse. She worked as a Secretary for the Barnegat Bay Dredging Co, in Harvey Cedars and retired after 30 years. She was a member of the Barnegat Light Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, the LBI Historic Preservation Committee, the Barnegat Light Historical Society and the Society of Friends. She volunteered at Southern Ocean Medical Center and the Stafford and LBI libraries for many years. She loved nature and birds. Her yard was recognized as a backyard National Audubon wildlife refuge. She had a passion for NASCAR, Jimmy Johnson was her favorite driver.
She is survived by her daughter, Maureen and son-in-law Scott Peraria, granddaughters Abigail and Emily Peraria, all of Manahawkin, NJ, her brother George Rowbottom of Portland, OR, a niece Susan Davis of Buck Hill Falls, PA, 2 nephews, Robert Egizi of Vail, Colorado and Anothy Eigizi of Kirkland, Washington.
A Memorial Service will be held on August 18th, 2015 at 4:00 pm at Grace Calvary Church, 19th St. and Long Beach Blvd., Ship Bottom, NJ 08008. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Claire's memory to the Barnegat Light Historical Society, P.O. Box 386, Barnegat Light, NJ 08006. Arrangements were under the direction of Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, Ship Bottom.

I was so sad to learn of Claire's passing. I "inherited" her as a pen pal when my mother died in 2002. Wrote to her until she no longer answered. I am looking now at the beautiful shell and NJ sand she was so thoughtful to send my mom, who was raised in NJ and then moved with my dad to michigan in 1943. She cried when she opened that box, "my ocean." So, I kept your claire as a pp after that as a favor to my mom. Claire was a strong, amazing woman to say the least. I wish I could have known her when I was young. I enjoyed deciphering her horrible typing. It became a puzzle I looked forward to. I found her obit after missing her awhile, learning lots I. didnt know. I still miss hearing from her. Condolences to the family she loved.
