David P. Powers

AGE: 65 • South Amboy

David P. Powers, 65, of South Amboy died Thursday, September 27, 2012 at JFK Medical Center, Edison. Born in South Amboy, he lived there all of his life. Before retiring in 1998, he was employed by the N.J. Turnpike Authority, Woodbridge for 25 years. He was a member of St. Mary's R. C. Church, South Amboy. He was a 1965 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft and earned a bachelor's degree in business from St. Peter's College, Jersey City in 1969. He served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion, Luke A. Lovely Post 62, South Amboy. An avid sports fan, he loved life, the Jersey shore, his music and his cats.

Son of the late Edward J. Powers who died in 1971, he was also predeceased by his brother, Michael J. Powers in 1977.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret Janeski Powers of South Amboy; his long time companion, Beverly Samuelson of South Amboy and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 9am from The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals" 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2pm to 5pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Whiskers Rescue, Inc., P.O. Box 1206, Sayreville, NJ 08871.

Margaret; not sure you remember me but I dated David in College years and Beverly I didn't know you but am sure you are a special woman if Dave loved you. I have been out of touch, lived in Colorado but always remember all the Yankee games, his Army days and Jersey Shore days. He is one of my fondest memories of younger days. I will pray for peace for both of you.
