EDWARD BURRELL
AGE: 79 EDISON
Edward V. Burrell, 79, of Edison died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at Mary Anne Hale Pavilion Haven Hospice, Edison.
Born in Staten Island, N.Y., he graduated from St. Peter's Boys High School.
Mr. Burrell started working for the Staten Island Advance in 1946 at the Publication Desk in the Display Advertising Department. He was then transferred to the Composing Room where he worked as a line-a-type machine operator.
In 1951 he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, and served in the Plate Department of the 22nd Engineer's Reproduction Platoon. He was discharged in 1953 with the rank of corporal.
Upon his return, he resumed his position at the Staten Island Advance until his retirement in 1995.
He was a past governor of the Edison Moose Lodge 1978 and received its first Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a three-term president of the Staten Island Twilight League. He was a communicant of St. Matthew's R.C. Church, Edison. Edward was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan.
He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Florence P. (Smith) Burrell, who died in 2008. Surviving are his children, Edward V. Burrell Jr., Patricia Burrell of Las Vegas, Nev., and Dawn Ferrara and her husband Anthony of Freehold, and two grandchildren, Brianna and Anthony Ferrara.
Funeral services will take place at 8:45 a.m. Monday at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave., (Rt. 27), Metuchen, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Matthew's R.C. Church, Edison. Visitation will be from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
