Mr. Emmanuel Antonakakis passed away Tuesday, May 14th, 2013 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 88 years old. Born to John and Vassiliki Antonakakis in Hania, on the Greek Isle of Crete, Emmanuel came to the United States in 1955. He lived in New Brunswick and Highland Park before settling in Edison 35 years ago. He had a long career as a leather cutter, retiring 23 years ago. Mr. Antonakakis was a devoutly religious man, and an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway, where he served as the Cantor for over 50 years, on the Parish Council and as the Sexton. He was devoted to his family, and cherished time spent with them. He was an avid reader who loved to garden and play the Greek laouto.

Mr. Antonakakis was predeceased by his brothers, Stavros and Rev. Joseph Antonakakis. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Irene Antonakakis; by their children, John Anton and his wife Glenda, Vicky Gerometta and her husband John, Constantinos Antonakakis, Joseph Antonakakis and his wife Linda, and Eleni Apostolakis and her husband Constantine; grandchildren, Stephanie and Michael, Christine and Diane, Joseph, Christina, and Kathleen, and Demetri, Yianni, Andreas, and Katerina; great-grandchildren, Marcella, Luca, and Veronica; and by his brother, Kostas Antonakakis.

Visitation will be held between 9 and 10 am Monday, May 20th at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Rd., Piscataway, NJ 08854 with the funeral service to follow.
