Eugene Macor Obituary
Eugene John Macor
AGE: 82 • Spring Hill, Fla.
Gene entered eternal life on April 21, 2011 after a brief illness at his home in Spring Hill, FL surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 22, 1928 in Newark, NJ to Joseph Macor and Katarina Pariza Macor, he graduated from Union High School in Union, NJ. His fine athletic ability allowed him to be drafted by the Blue Comets in Union to play semi-professional football. He was drafted again, this time into the United States Army during the Korean War. He served as a Supply Sergeant and stationed at Fort Eustice, VA. Gene was a member of the 714th TROB and received an honorary discharge from the service. He lived in Piscataway, NJ and Lake Harmony, PA before retiring to Spring Hill, FL in 1993. Gene was the ultimate entrepreneur. He learned the tool and die business from his father before taking over the family business in the 1960s. After moving to a home which he constructed for his family in Piscataway, he became the honest and reliable neighborhood mechanic and also co-owned the Dunellen Getty service station until his retirement. Gene was the "go-to" guy for the best buys of pre-owned cars and for the maintenance to keep those cars in top condition. His family rarely knew which car they would be driving from one day to the next as Gene regularly found good homes for the cars he owned which were temporarily housed in his driveway. Gene married the love of his life, Margaret (Pegge) Daubner of Elizabeth, NJ on June 21, 1952. They began their family in Newton, NJ and continued raising their children in Piscataway. He had a strong work ethic and strived to be a good provider for his family. Gene was the proud father of six boys and two girls. Following in his footsteps, the children made Gene a cherished "Grampy" to four granddaughters and 12 grandsons. Many fond memories were made with the children at various campgrounds and historic sites across the country. In later years, Gene and Pegge traveled together in their recreational vehicle with RV club members throughout the southern states. The Piscataway homestead was also the hub for many family gatherings around the pool where Gene was the master of grilling and making Manhattans for his guests. A man of great faith, Gene truly lived his Christian principles and was the epitome of integrity, respect and tradition. He was a former parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Piscataway and St. Luke's Church in North Plainfield, NJ. Gene and Pegge are current members of St. Frances Cabrini Church in Spring Hill. Gene's passion for outdoor sports included golf, fresh water fishing and hunting in the Hunterdon County, NJ countryside. He was the co-founder of the Hill and Dale Gun Club. Gene was a die hard fan of the NY Yankees, NY Giants and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He enjoyed being an armchair general manager and head coach for his favorite teams.
Surviving family members include Pegge, his wife of 58 years; sons Peter (Terri) of Flemington, NJ, Chris of Boulder, CO, Tom (Marie) of Milltown, NJ, Jeff (Crystal) of Hillsborough, NJ, Jay (Stacey) of Belford, NJ and Henry Barnett (Jennifer) of Hillsborough; daughters Susan Epstein (Mark) and Maribeth Clarke (Steve) both of Hillsborough, NJ; brother George (Judy) of Warren, NJ; sister-in-law Alida Macor of Martinsville, NJ and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Joe.
A funeral mass was held at St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church, Spring Hill. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held in NJ and announced at a later date. Gene's collection of Hess tanker trucks was one of his prized possessions. Per his wishes, they will be used as his final resting place when his cremains are distributed to family members. Contributions in Gene's memory can be made to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 12107 Majestic Blvd, Hudson, FL 34667. May his spirit transition to a place so that he may be of most benefit to the most beings!
