Francis Kawalec Obituary

Francis Joseph Kawalec, Jr.

Wilmington, NC - Francis Joseph Kawalec, Jr., 81, of Wilmington, died Saturday, March 14, 2020, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Frank was born January 22, 1939 in Middlesex County, NJ, son of the late Francis J. Kawalec, Sr. and Mary Magdalene Koscielny Kawalec.

Frank loved fishing, golfing and most of all cooking for his family and friends. He was a real "foodie". His love of Lawrence Welk and his band was a source of great enjoyment for him. The happiest days of his life were those spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and his Wednesday morning coffee group.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ann Marie Kawalec; two daughters, Marianne Nadeau of Greensboro, NC, and Marlene Ahde (Eric) of Freehold, NJ; four grandchildren, Cori and Jack Ahde, and Cole and Alex Nadeau; and three sisters, Mary Anne DeMello, Christine Kraeft (Walter), and Theresa Kawalec.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's memory may be made online or by mail to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Dear Ann Marie ,Marianne, Marlene and family. Our deepest sympathy go out to all of you. Frank will be missed by so many people. Bob will always remember the times Frank, Frank G. Bucky & Bob (all DuPont buddies) would get together to make fresh Kielbasa either in the Freehold home or the Holmdel home. What laughs they always had. Our family will always remember those DuPont picnics where we would all congregate to play games, eat good food (Frank & Bob always were behind the grills helping to make that good food) and be like all one family. God Bless! You are in our prayers.

Our sincere condolences to Ann Marie and family, our prayers are with you.
My memories of Frank go back to when we were about 10 years old. We went hunting and fishing with our fathers, we even had trap lines in the tributaries of the South River. He loved to cook and always made the fresh fish we would catch. We had a paper route before we learned how to drive. Frank was 10 months older then me, so he did everything first. Not knowing it then, but he became a mentor. As we became adults, the time flew by faster and faster. I will always remember Frank as a kind and easy going guy that everybody loved. My great memories of Frank will live on due to the many stories I tell my kids, grand kids, and friends. As 80 years has past no matter what I do or where I go no one will ever take the label Frank has in my heart, MY BEST FRIEND

Oh God, there's so much we could say. Frank was jovial and always thinking of others. He loved gardening, cooking, fishing and music and he shared the fruits of all of these with those he loved. We were fortunate to live beside Frank and Ann Marie for several years in Carolina Beach. We pray that Frank's life will continue to be a blessing for all who knew and loved him, until we meet again...
