Gwendolyn Freeman Obituary

Gwendolyn Ransom Freeman

Lavallette

Gwendolyn Ransom Freeman of Sunset Beach, Haleiwa, Hawaii and Lavallette, NJ, went home to the lord on May 30, 2015. She was born in Denmark, Arkansas on Sep. 20, 1923 to the late Guy Robert and Ruby Jewel Ransom. She graduated from Bradford High School in Bradford, Arkansas and attended business college in Memphis, Tenn. Later in life she attended Rutgers University. While in Memphis she met Army Air Corps pilot Lt. Robert Freeman (Dr. Robert Freeman, Sr.) and they were married in Coleman, Texas, on Oct. 9, 1943. She was a homemaker until her children were of school age, then she worked as the receptionist/bookkeeper for her husband's medical practice. After she and Dr. Freeman relocated to Hawaii in 1975 she worked at the Allerton Botanical Gardens on the island of Kauai propagating endangered plants. She also began a nursery business called 'Pot of Gold.'

She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, son Donald Scott Freeman, and four sisters: Opal Ransom, Leslie Dale Grise, Mable Cannon and Zeda May Hollowell. She is survived by her son Robert Freeman, Jr. (Cynthia) and grandchildren Ashley and Grant; daughter Gwendolyn Ransom Miller (Tom), and grandsons Keith (Michelle), Gregory, and Timothy; daughter Judith Storm Freeman; and great-grandson Zachary. One sister, Alma Gene Rooks, lives in North Little Rock. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In the 1980s, Dr. Freeman semiretired from his medical practice in Highland Park, NJ. He worked for a company that provided doctors for short-term assignments across the United States and the Freemans used the various locations to tour the country. They spent their summers at their beach house in Lavallette, NJ and, when not working, they wintered in Haleiwa, Hawaii. For many summers her grandchildren Ashley and Grant visited Lavallette and loved being 'down the shore' with their cousins.

As per her request, she was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

We send our condolences to the Freeman family now on hearing about your Mom. Your Dad, Dr. Bob was a caring man who gave much to our hometown and to many of us as a dedicated physican. We remember their devotion to each other, and to you all as well. May they both along with your brother rest in peace, Warm regards, Phyllis & Bob MacKinney and family
