HOWARD DANIEL PRESTON
AGE: 79 FORMERLY OF MARLBORO
Howard Daniel Preston, 79, formerly of Marlboro, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at CCMC in Lewiston, Maine. He was born to Mabel Stattel Preston and Howard J. Preston in Freehold on April 8, 1929. He spent his first 21 years on the family farm in Marlboro. He joined the 50th Armed Division in the New Jersey National Guard and later became a master mechanic and managed a Chrysler and International Harvester dealership at Orr Motors, Inc. on Highway 33 in Manalapan. He was a member of Old Brick Reformed Church in Marlboro, the Monmouth Grange and the Masonic Temple in Matawan. He served as a volunteer fireman in Morganville and Manalapan Fire Companies for a total of 50 years. Upon moving to Gray, Maine, he became a member of the Great Falls Model Railroad Club and the Royal River Rod and Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Joan Orr; his cousins, Kenneth and William Stattel of Marlboro; his son, H. Daniel Jr. andhis wife of North Carolina; his daughters, Peggy Schiereck and her husband of Maine, and Janet Samples and her husband of Florida; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009 at the Old Brick Reformed Church. Interment will follow at Brick Church Cemetery, Marlboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Brick Reformed Church in Marlboro. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold.
