HUGH J. CAMPBELL
AGE: 86 MAYS LANDING
Hugh J. Campbell, 86, of Mays Landing, passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Galloway.
Mr. Campbell was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland, to the late Hugh and the late Catherine Burns Campbell and had previously lived in The Bronx, N.Y., and Fords before moving to Mays Landing 20 years ago. In 1939, he graduated from Townsend Harris High School, New York City, attended New York University and enlisted in the service. Mr. Campbell was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was employed 33 years as general manager of the Clifton, N.J. and Jamesboro, Ark., plants for American District Telegraph before retiring in 1979.
He married his loving wife of 65 years on Aug. 14, 1943, Dorothy McDonald Campbell, and also is survived by his two daughters, Catherine Campbell of Mays Landing, Joyce and her husband John Henry of Edison; his two sisters Catherine Lynn and Joyce Mollis, both of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren April Whipert, Jill Fink, Harry Suiter and Kristen Henry, and five great-grandchildren.
Private cremation was arranged by Mitruska Funeral Home, 531 New Brunswick Ave., Fords, Fords. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006, www.lungUSA.org
