Dear Geri,
I found out today about Hugh. My heart aches for you and your family. Hugh was there for us when Karl died. I am so sorry I was not there for you. I consider it a honor and a privilege to be in Hugh's company. There is no better angel watching over us and sitting at the right side of our Father. He may be absent but he is with the Lord. I am praying for increasing blessings and strength during this difficult time. Again I am sorry I was not present. Love, Sylvia

We become acquainted with many doing our lifetimes, but of that many there are but a few that leave an imprint that you treasure in the core of your being. For me, Hugh was one of these few. I will remember him for his passion, integrity, and fortitude. I extend my condolences to his family. In their grief, may it help them to know that his life is a memorial to others that were blessed to have worked with him over many years at VA NJ. With God, we know that there are no endings, only endless beginnings. Tomorrow holds hope. Tomorrow holds eternal life. May the God of comfort and peace give us unending grace until our tomorrows brings forth those days that will reunite us with Hugh in homes prepared for us in our Father’s heavenly house.

The fruit is no greater than the tree that it came from.... if you love the fruit you must love the tree from which it came. Dear Mr.Smith, I have loved your daughter and grandson since childhood. My first love is them, my second love is poetry. And therefore you and I shared 3 great things in this world and then last year I was blessed to share you with them. I will never forget your voice, humor and wisdom and ofcourse your "Last Poet's", Gil Scott ?Hiron style and flow. There is no pain in death accept for us that misses you, but I unselfishly say, "Rest Well, and prepare for the next journey, you will be a blast on that journey as well. Love you"

I only knew him for a short time, but he was a pleasure to work with, always a laughter and a smile that I will miss and to his friends and espically his wife and children who he talked about often, I wish I could be there to hold your hand, but I'm thinking of you and I'm sharing your sorrow. The little things that you remember, the happy moments, smiles and laughter,in time these memories will push their way through the pain. Yes, your loss will always hurt, but in between, therewill be happiness again someone so special will always live in your heart, and with support of family and friends help you through these days. My deepest sympathy's are with you all, "STAY STRONG"

Hugh I know that you are now in a better place where there is no pain and for that I am grateful. To your family and friends your passing leave a hugh hole in our hearts as you brought so much joy to those who knew you. I'm not sure that mere words could comfort your family but want them to know that my thoughts and prayers are with them. I so enjoyed the times I worked with you and the care you showed our veterans. May God bless you, as you have blessed the lives of those who knew you.

It will be the little things
that you will remember,
the quiet moments,
the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem
hard right now,
it will be the memories
of these little things
that help to push
away the pain
and bring the smiles
back again.
Geri we have you in our hearts and we are here for you and the family.
Hugh will be missed by us dearly.

Hugh, a wonderful person with a good sense of humour. I will miss hearing his laugh, and seeing him on unit 1b with his hat turned backwards, his white uniform, holding a large cup of coffee or tea from dunkin dounuts as he tries to sneak into the break room with his hot bran muffin with butter hoping that i would not ask him for a piece (he always shared his muffin). we would always sing "Tramp" by otis redding and had a ball singing it. when i went to see him before the Lord called him home, through all of his pain he was still able to sing the song "Tramp" keeping the rhythm to the song as he tapped on the siderails of his bed. Hugh will be truly missed.

Dear Geraldine, I am so sorry for your loss. I appreciate the wonderful photo here of Hugh--it captures the essence of who I thought he was as I grew to know him over the past couple of years--playful, sincere, and with a twinkle in his eye.
