Irwin Hundert Obituary
AGE: 88 • East Brunswick
Irwin Hundert, of East Brunswick, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 88. Born in the Bronx, he attended City College of New York where he was Editor-in-Chief of the student newpaper and chief of the Jewish engineering fraternity Phi Delta Pi.
He earned his Masters in Chemical Engineering from NYU. Mr. Hundert was married for 65 years to Hazel (Friedman) Hundert. They lived in Woodbridge, NJ., and Needham, MA., before moving to East Brunswick 43 years ago. He worked for Chevron Oil Company in Perth Amboy for 32 years. He was an adjunct professor for NYU and Rutgers Extension Division. Most recently he was a full-time professor at New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark for 10 years before retiring in 1992. He was active in B'nai Brith, the Lion's Club, and Congregation Adath Israel of Woodbridge.He was a member of the East Brunswick Jewish Center. He served as a Democratic Committeeman and was proud to be a lifelong liberal. He was also a volunteer tax preparer at the East Brunswick Senior Center.
He was predeceased by his son Alan Hundert (d. 1975). Surviving is his wife Hazel (Friedman) Hundert; his son and daughter-in-law Edward and Mary Hundert of Shaker Heights Ohio; his daughter and son-in-law Karen and Alan Novick of Highland Park; his brother Murray Hundert, and his wife Rose, of Leonardtown, MD; and 6 granddaughters: Tamar and Ora Novick, Aviva Sterman and her husband Michael, and Carol, Anna and Laura Hundert.
Services will be Monday, December 30th, at 10:00 am, at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St - at Riva Avenue, Milltown. Burial will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge. Contributions may be made in Irwin's name to the The City College Fund, Shepard Hall - Room 166, 160 Convent Avenue, New York, NY., 10031-9986 (www.citycollegefund.org) or to the charity of your choice.
