JOSEPH P. MADISON
AGE: 85 EDISON
Joseph P. Madison, 85, of Edison, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at the Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center. Born in the Piscatawaytown section of Edison Township, Mr. Madison was a lifelong Edison resident. He had been employed by PSE&G for over 34 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1979. During World War II, Mr. Madison served with the U.S. Navy. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Father & Son Post, Edison, and was also a member of the National American Legion Post #1000. Mr. Madison had been a member of the Highland Park Reformed Church. He enjoyed raising vegetables in his garden as well as cooking for family and friends. He was also well-known for his woodworking abilities.
Son of the late Meyer John and Margaret (Pino) Madison, he is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy M. (Frank) Madison; his daughters and their spouses, Barbara M. and Warren Mengedoth of Hamilton, and Dorothy M. and Carlo Burriesci of Toms River; his sister, Louise Ashman of Jamesburg; his sister-in-law, Beatrice Madison of Catawissa, Pa.; his four grandchildren, Jennifer Mengedoth, Joseph Mengedoth and his wife Tracy, Carlo Burriesci III, and Danielle Burriesci; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Charles Schmidt.
Relatives and friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7 and 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8 until the funeral services at noon in the Gowen Funeral Home, 239 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park Cemetery, North Brunswick, with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to your favorite charity.
