Judy Simone Obituary

Judy B. Simone

Edison - Judy B.Simone (Dattilo), 97, of Edison passed away peacefully Friday, April16, 2021 at Hackensack Meridian JFK University Medical Center in Edison, NJ.

Judy was born in Elizabeth, NJ on April 29, 1923 to the late Salvatore and Carmela (Picarelli) Dattilo. The youngest of seven children - John, Mary, Ann, Lester, Josephine, and Francis - Judy was raised in Elizabeth with a large extended family. A graduate of Battin High School and of the Newark Preparatory and Commercial School, Judy also earned her Associates degree from Seton Hall University. She worked as a secretary for Interchemical Corporaton and was a member of the Junior Woman's Club of Elizabeth.

On November 25, 1951, Judy married her absolute love Cyril M. Simone Jr. at Holy Rosary Church in Elizabeth. Upon relocating to Edison, NJ in 1964, they became parishioners at St Francis Cathedral in Metuchen. Judy worked as librarian from 1978 to 2002 at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Edison, where she enjoyed many friendships.

Judy was a superb cook and took great delight in hosting her family for holidays or a simple meal any time. Her children knew they could bring any number of friends home to a meatball and spaghetti dinner without warning. An avid reader, Judy enjoyed the New York Times Book Review every week. She loved to crochet and knit, creating lovely gifts for her family. A woman of deep faith and strength, Judy was devoted to the Blessed Mother and would pray the rosary for her family daily.

She was predeceased by her husband Cyril (1981), her parents, and her siblings. Surviving are her children Donna Pastore (Ralph), Cyril M. Simone III (Rhonda) and Patrice Simone (Louis Palladino). She was a beloved "Grammy" to her grandchildren Brigitte Szivos (Michael), Brienna Reid (Brian), Joleen Pastore, Andrew Palladino, Benjamin Pastore (Samantha), Julienna Palladino Amicucci (Nicholas), Carlie Brennan (John), Trever Pastore, Alison Simone, Thomas Palladino, and Jocelyn Simone, and to her great grandchildren Trey and Marlee Szivos; Brooke, Salvatore, and Lana Pastore; Lucy and Bailey Brennan; and Genevieve Amicucci. Judy is also survived by her sister-in-law Regina Burgess, her dear nieces Helen Linkevich and Kathleen Dattilo, nephew Salvatore Dattilo, and many, many more loving nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 4 to 8 pm at the Costello~Runyon Funeral Home at 568 Middlesex Avenue, Metuchen, NJ 08840. The funeral will take place on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 9:45 AM from the Funeral Home, followed by a 10:15 AM Funeral Mass at St Francis Cathedral in Metuchen. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia. Donations may be made to St Jude's Research Hospital at stjude.org.
